Control issue, nothing recognized

The program itself accepts my control settings both for keyboard and game controller. However, when in a game, or even in the main screen (no game loaded) no input is accepted.

(By main screen, I mean the Memory Card, Main Menu, and Music CD screen)

I know my keyboard and controller work fine, because the configuration lets me bind the keys (and buttons), I just can't get it recognized within the actual emulated part.

EDIT: I would like to add that I do NOT have it set to Dualshock.

I have it set to DualShock (I use a DS with a ps2 to usb converter) and works fine

However I had the same problem and I solved it using a different psx bios

So what do you have it set to, Trel? To get controller response on the BIOS pages, and many games, you'll need the controller Type set to SCPH-1010: Normal pad, and you may have to use your directional pad, not the analog stick, for directional control.

@The Black: the BIOS used may have an effect on whether the game plays, but it won't have any effect on how the controller works.

I set it to dualshock and then set it back to normal pad, and it started working.

Ah the joys of solutions which shouldn't make a difference but do.

On the contrary, Trel - that solution certainly should make a difference because that's how a Playstation and Playstation games work.

You can't play games that don't support analog controllers on a Playstation with an analog controller set to analog mode, either, and nor can you access the memory card editor or the CD player. You have to set the controller to digital.

The difference is that with an analog controller on the console, you can toggle the mode by pressing a button on the controller. With pSX, you have to change the mode by setting Type to Dualshock or Normal in configuration. But it's the same thing.

The reason why you can't play a number of Playstation games with a controller set to analog mode is the games weren't written to support an analog controller. The only way to do this would be by rewriting the entire game. Similarly, the console, although it supports analog controllers in games that support them, doesn't support them in its own functions.

You misunderstand. I was ON normal controller. It did not work until I took it OFF of normal controller and put it on dualshock and then changed it back to normal controller.

As it stands, I'm exactly where I started.

I noticed a similar problem with Valkyrie Profile (except the other way around), and never figured out why. A good question though would be... what games have you been trying so far? Also, which BIOS are you using (have you tried different ones?)?

Only game I tried was FF7

However, once again, it works now. I simply changed FROM normal pad TO dualshock, and then BACK to normal pad which makes me think it was a one time glitch.

Yes, Final Fantasy VII doesn't support analog controllers, Trel. Very strange glitch that, though.

AIR pSX is set to Normal when you first run it. Had you ever changed this?

Nope, it was a fresh download. It was on normal, and didn't work. I tried dualshock for the hell of it, and it didn't work. I then changed it back, and it did. It works now, and I don't really know enough about it to go any deeper into figuring it out.

Interesting, Trel - most people (myself included) always switch a new version of pSX to Dualshock immediately to configure it, then switch back to normal as needed. Will have to check it out...

@The Black: what about the rumble in Wip3out SE?

Does Wip3out SE support rumble controllers? It'll say on the back of the case if it does - if it doesn't say, it doesn't support it. The same goes for analog control.

But it also depends a lot on the controller and its rumble driver: a lot of manufacturers seem to produce very buggy drivers; not only do they not always work properly, but sometimes they will even crash the application the controller is being used for.

I'm using a Play Station 2's Dual shock with a ps2 - usb converter

One of the major problems with rumble in Windows is the drivers, The Black. The drivers written by many controller and adapter manufacturers are buggy, sometimes far past the point where they just don't work in many games; sometimes they will even crash some games.

If you need rumble in Wipeout 3: Special Edition (BTW it's not Wip3out SE - I wasted a lot of time searching on that - if you want help, don't mislead the people trying to help you. Call games by their proper names, not 'clever' misnomers. It doesn't help and it's not clever) then you need to find out first what other drivers are available for your adapter and try them. If you can't find any that work, then you need to find another adapter or, failing that, another controller. FWIW, one controller I found (and use) that seems very accurate in its rumble facility in Windows, apart from from being generally an extremely good controller, is the Logitech RumblePad 2 (I use the corded version).

I'm deeply sorry.. I didn't thought about that

The adapter I'm using it's plug'n'play. I'll see if there are drivers for it, otherwise I'll try with the Logitech RumblePad 2

If the adapter you're using is Plug'n'Play, you won't be getting rumble at all, The Black. Any controller (or adapter) in Windows needs a driver to support rumble.

Then I can't understand why it works with Final Fantasy IX

It shouldn't. There are no native rumble drivers in Windows.
