Stuck in Suikoden

This is probably not emulator related (but may be) but I can't find a better place to post this, so here goes.

I am stuck at the point when you are supposed to make contact with the maelstrom in your boat. You are then supposed to sail back to Teien and recruit Gen, who will upgrade the boat.

However, when I make contact, the boat gets stuck. The game is not frozen - I can still pull up the menu, but the boat will simply not move.

Does anyone have a savestate past this point, so I can go on playing my game?

I found the problem. Codes. When I turned CEP off and restarted, it worked just fine.

I think you bandited one too many doughnuts, donutbandit!

When you're using cheats, always turn them off before assuming anything else is wrong!

But codes are fun! I mean, they help you beat the game!

Actually, I have used codes since I was about 10 years old and was still playing on the original Nintendo.

Game Genie, anyone?

Sure, Ziggy. But if you're getting problems and you're using codes, the first step should always be to suspect that the codes may be the problem and switch them off.

Common sense, really.
