Emu problems (DVD)

Hi i hope you can help but ive just been playing with pcsx trying to get some of my ps2 games to emulate.

However it seems i cannot load any games from dvd.

PC: Althon 3000, 2gb DDR Ram, ATI Radeon X850
Plugins: ZeroGS KOSMOS (no sse2) 0.97.0 | PEOPS CDVD 1.30 (all others null for testing)
Using: pcsx2t (non VM) as i have AMD and no SSE2

Now i have managed to load a game by ripping it to ISO and loading via the ISO loader, however due to lack of HDD space and well in excess of 80 games ripping them isnt a solution for me.

Basically what happens is i hit Load DVD and the ps2 emu window dissapears (the ps2 output window stays, however no errors or additional text besides the initial boot up text appears).

After about 15 mins the emu window appeared and the program instantly crashed to desktop. During this time no CD reading seemed to be performed.

I also noticed that if you try to close the emu after you try to load the DVD it will not close, even with end task and on top of this locks the dvd drive until the program exits & another instance of pcsx is started. AS WELL as this i also noticed that if you run a second instance while the first is still "lagged" and try to configure the PEOPS plugin it will freeze until the first instance exits.

I know the game works as i have ripped it to ISO and it loads fine....well a bit jerky but playable. But loading from DVD just wont seem to work no matter what i do.

I have tried 2 different versions of pcsx (0.9.4 and 0.8.1) both with the same problem and since i am unable to find any other CD/DVD plugins i am stuck.

Any advice?

Edit:
Oh yes PEOPS CDVD is configued using my DVD drive, W2k/XP IOCTL scsi commands, Caching mode None, all other checkboxes disabled. I assume this is right for WinXP?

okay hmm, what are your settings under cpu->config ?

also can we have a screenshot of your peops setup? (use the attachment feature rather than an external image host thanks)

change your Caching mode in peops cdvd to "Thread read", its better for IOCTL. Chgange your sound plugin to Peops SPU2.

last resort, try an older version of peops cdvd.

other than that, im stumped

Thanks for the advice, my sound is already PEOPS but i tried the thread change.

I have however think i may have found the problem, after throwing the disc across my room & trying another game i think its the damn disc -.-

The game i was trying was Suikoden IV, i am now testing with Xenosaga II which seems to be loading.

However the frame rate seems unplayably low (imo 1-5fps max) even though the FPS counter is around 50 (in the windows titlebar)

Is this normal? I know my pc is hardley top notch nowadays but i figured i would be able to play these games at least.

gsdx is a better choice for xenosaga, its much quicker in handling the graphics.

sorry i meant ZeroSPU2 instead of Peops SPU2 ;p

I actually spoke too soon, Xenosaga loaded once (after about 10 mins of waiting) but now it is doing exactly what Suikoden was doing.

I guess ill try an older version of the CDVD plugin, but where can i get it?

Also isnt GSDX for SSE2 only, i figured it was because every time i select it & try & configure/play with it the application crashes.

Minimum requirements: Pixel Shader 2.0.

so no, just make sure you have the latest one, i think the earlier ones were SSE2, just make sure you dont pick the one with "SSE2" in the plugin name.

ive asked one of my testers to upload the Peops 1.2.0 Mod for you, works very well for us.

Here's the CDDA mod for PeOPs CDVD 1.2.0, which seems to be the best version of it thus far.

File Type: rar cdvdPeopsdl 1.2.0.rar (38.6 KB, 19 views)
