Is dx10 or dx9 plugin preferable with these circumstances..

I just have a few questions as I am vaguely familiar with this section. Sorry if I am about to ask stupid questions but I have read over to what I believe are all the threads to my questions yet I still don't have a clear answer in mind.

I tried running Abyss with an older rig, P4 3.0 Ghz 7800GS 1GB Ram, but it failed me and I just had 5 FPS all the time no matter what.

My specs to my computer are in my sig, which I think are sufficient to run any game that is compatible with PCSX2. I am trying to run Tales of the Abyss and I was wondering if using the dx10 plugin or the dx9 plugin would be better. I have Vista and XP dual-booted so I can go to whichever one I feel like but I was curious to know the technical differences? Which one would you guys recommend for my specs and my situation.

I hope I will achieve higher FPS and thank you for taking your time to help me.

Use GSDX (its just GSdx9 renamed, with the GSdx10 code that was once put in a separate plugin, reintegrated in ONE single plugin, plus a significant number of fixes and improvements)

DX9 is actually faster than DX10 in most games, but there are some exceptions.
And pcsx2 is also faster in XP than in vista in my case for example.
You should try it yourself what DirectX version and operating system runs faster for you.

Well hopefully Tales of the Abyss will run fine, i'll try later today after my classes. I play Crysis on Very High with a config that makes it look better with around 30 average FPS so hopefully i'll be fine.

I've actually found DX10 runs faster in almost all games that I tried, maybe its just coincidental that they are optimised for DX10 and DX9 is on average the better option, but for me personally its DX10 all the way.

That's my experience as well with DX10,

DirectX 10 mode has less graphical glitches too

Im using this config.

The video is randomly screwy (I don't mind) but the video stops abruptly after like 10 seconds into the intro and does so for every video cutscene.

Also is there a way to get AA To work? I've forced it in my forceware panel but it doesn't seem to be working. Any recommended plug ins? I've been playing Tales of the Abyss.

AA from the video card drivers wont work, if u want similar effect just use a higher internal resolution

Yeah I forgot about V-Sync but im not really having an FPS problem at all. The random cut-scene breakups that annoy me (A Cutscene stops randomly without me hitting any button..) and im a story-line kind of person too. I fixed the AA though with internal resolution, thanks. But anyone have any idea why my cutscenes randomly stop? Maybe my iso file is damaged (I don't think so?) Any suggestions, thanks.

Im also using the non virtual memory version, would that affect anything? I assumed it would use my actual physical memory instead which would be better correct? Thanks again.

the VM version use your physical ram too, but it locates a fixed section for the virtual PS2 ram.

try remaking the ISO it may cause that sometimes, try also from the DVD with P.E.Op.S cdvd plugin and try to pass that part

non VM would only make the emulation more stable in most cases you can try VM and see if it works good enough

When I use the P.E.Op.S cdvd I have to mount the ISO to a virtual drive and when I load the dvd it just crashes to desktop and nothing happens.

I really like tales games but the storyline is half the fun in them...if I can't watch the videos it would be really depressing to play. Anyone have any more suggestions or should I make a new thread specifically to address this problem? Thanks alot everyone that has helped me so far.
