There are some pretty strange z-order glitches appearing in Dark Cloud, looks like the far terrain is appearing above everything in the foreground (terrain, buildings, NPC's, everything).

Changing the Z-mode in GSdx does nothing, and ZeroGS displays even worse visual glitches...might be an emulator problem.

Hello everyone, I am an Italian new member.

I've downloaded this plugin, and i have to say that it's incredible, i've noticed fantastic improvements but...i have a problem. Running my copy of FF-X vith GSdX 0.1.7, there is always a periodicity of black screens, both in-game and in videos.

What can I do in order to resolve this problem?

Thank you.

PS. Sorry, I cannot speak English very well ^^'

Do you have VU skip enabled? If so, just use "LIMIT" or "FRAME SKIP" because VU skip will cause that...not to mention use the correct resolution, and sometimes you cannot remove those graphical glitches.

Yup. I can actually confirm this. I just installed Vista SP1 now and it DX10 mode works fine with crossfire enabled and like you I get performance boosts (especially noticable in Dragon Quest VIII as the sound gets choppy/skippy less frequent (but still not at full speed just yet). Now the big question is why is this so? What does SP1 do or fix in that regard? It's things like this that make emulators so darn hard to debug? I mean look at the list of questions that could come up?

Is it the emulator?
Is it the plugin?
Is it the drivers?
Is it the current version (or revision) of DirectX?
Is it the operating system?

and it's not always possible to tell easily (like in this case).

Vista SP1 definitely affects the graphics subsystem in some way. ATI's Hybrid Crossfire only works with SP1 because something is incompatible with the original Vista. This might also be related to DX10 rendering not working properly with GSdx.

Then I wonder why none of my regular (DX10) games have never given me similar problems. I guess there's something special used in gdsx that's not utilized by any new PC games.

EDIT: It seems speed improvements carry over to all my games so that aspect isn't just specific to PCSX2 (or even Directx 10)

Has anyone gotten Manhunt 2 to work? I've managed to get past the initial crash at the beginning but I'm getting the "bad start code 1b3, will manuall skip stream" error during Cutscenes making everything really slow and messing up the sound. also, the D3D internal res has to be 512x512 or it crashes at the beginning. When I start playing all the textures are messed up. Everything is black basically and I cant really see anything.

Vice City Stories runs significantly faster on GSdx 0.1.4 and below than it does on later versions, regardless of any settings. Does anyone know why this might be?

Clorf,
If the newer version runs a bit slower, its probably because it is doing something correctly that the older version didn't.

A while ago, GSdx had problems rendering character shadows in FFX. When Gabest fixed that, the game ran slower because it was rendering more things.

You shouldn't expect speed to be faster in new releases, you should just expect games to be emulated better.

Yes, basically, most people could run most games @ full 60FPS if the Graphic authors removed special effects, but it'd be ugly and glitched galore. I mean, if I check every option in ZeroGS, I can get some games to run @ 60FPS that won't run full speed in GSdx at ANY settings, the trade off? It looks AWFUL, horrible, and whatnot. The main focus right now is compatibility, like Cotton has said, not speed.

I actually get more graphical glitches in 0.1.7 than in 0.1.4, in addition to running at half speed.

If this is the "correct" way, I'd rather be doing it wrong.

I am, but I'd like to see this fixed in future versions. It's not only less efficient, but less compatible with the game, so it seems like something worth looking into.

I think you're the one doing it wrong, I just tried 1.4 and all my games are faster and work better in 1.7

DQVIII, DragonBall Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3, ectera, all gain a solid amount of FPS and Graphical glitches gone away in 1.7

Not all games are the same. It may work with a couple of games that you tried, but that doesn't mean it's universally better.

Well the general rule of the thumb around here is, everyones games who have come here so far usually work better in 1.7, in fact, some games need it to properly displayed and it's just generally known to be all around superior to the older versions.

It will be better to list the games using for testing so we all know which games better in what version of Gsdx. Probably the new ones are better for 'popular' (top selling) games, so report that it is better than old one are much more than the report of the opposite.
