Software rendering is only doing its work until the readout module. The ps2 can display two images from the memory at the same time at any position, blended. That (and optional deinterlacing) is done using directx 9 or 10.

But why would software rendering be usefull? Isn't that always slower than hardware because the gpu tasks lies on the cpu aswell?

Or are there some compatibility issues that are solved in software, that is almost not possible or very hard to find in hardware mode?

Slower but more compatible. Most games run between 10-30 fps on my e6600. This will only improve with newer cpus in the future and I don't have to do anything :P I mean like rewriting the hardware renderer for dx11, dx12, etc. when they become available.

AFAIK compability with software renderer is much higher. SO thereis a reason to improove it. It would be usefull in future
Gabest, is there any way for you to speed up Shadow f the Colossus some more ?
And what's about GT4? I read here that it works (AFAIR NexXxus said it), but as for me it crashs just a second before the start.

SVN 239 fixes some problems with pre-race crashes but the most races still won't start though...

EDIT: Just try some free runs at test course, original courses or some city courses...
Well, I got one race to start with ZeroGS. So this could be kinda GSdx related, but I'm not sure...

EDIT 2: So, I've checked SVN 239 again and when starting a race there is this small intro where the camera drives around the cars which is working fine. Then there is the countdown and when the game is supposed to switch to your car, pcsx crashes. Doesn't happpen with ZeroGS but it's slow as hell...

Shadow of the colossus starts getting bottlenecked by pcsx2 around 20-30 fps. I'm not sure about why GT4 crashes, but it crashes here too.

gabest, 1 question, I've installed Vista x64 and PCSX2 runs like 8-10 FPS faster than on XP, but DX9 or DX10 modes offers to me the same speed, I mean, I cant note any difference... should be?

Thx.

I'm using SVN 274 (used 269) before. I tested many races with ZeroGS and didn't find races with problems. But I didn't manage to start any race with GSdx . Maybe that's game version related??? I have NTSC - 517.19.
Gabest
As for Shadow of the colossus. The CPU loading is always 99% for me. Most of the time I get 10fps in-game (anyway I didn't get far from beginning so maybe things are worse in other places). BTW, glitchy graphics is a broken blur??

There are some crashes with ZeroGS but it's way more compatible than GSdx. As I said, GSdx has problems with races with an intro. But with my version (PAL) some free runs do work. Like original courses and stuff..

I think he probably meant an executable. Since the public betas on the main site are not updated anymore...

The public betas on the main site are, I suppose, updated when there is some significant change. I think you'd better not expect for every single svn change to be uploaded to the site XD

At any rate, you can check here if you want to see changelog

Resident Evil 4

Sadly, after around 20 hours of very enjoyable playing (everything runs 100% except for stall-happy movies) i found an almost game-hindering bug in Resident Evil 4. The infrared scope used to kill regenerator type enemies in the final chapters aint working correct.

Attached a screenie and compressed bmp/gs files.

EDIT: Ok this kinda sucks. Even 7zip on Ultra compression level can only sqeeze a gs file down to 1.1MB. Forum has a 1MB limit though. Ill just post the screenie for now.

use winrar to split the compressed file into 1MB ones, or use a free uploader like sendspace to store it

So basically you are playing with it and waiting until someone would create an OpenGL version... ~_^
