Problem with defualt padplugin

When I'm trying to set the Pad for myself I click on one of the buttons(exaple:select = .) and it just goes gray and I cant set it to what I want. I can use the default controls, but if I\you could get ingame its nice to be able to set it to your likens. I didnt see anyone else say anything so I thought I'd bring it up just incase.
If it matters I have a Pentium4(3.00GHz) with Windows XP(ServicePack 2) and I'm using PCSX 0.8

Just press it harder or keep doing it. That's what I do.

sorry but that didnt help all it does is stay gray and then everytime I press the key I want it to be it just makes a noise that means I shouldnt or cant click on it.

Are you using a controller? If you are you should use SSXPAD. The default doesn't really support some of the controllers.

It might have problems even if you have a pad attached to your pc...try SSXPAD plugin
