Beaux, highly expiermental is setup a completely different way it plays the sound files itself, what we're doing is playing the sound as the emulator calls for it's alot more complex than HE although Neill did a helluva job on it. Remember this sound plugin is far from complete... eventually it will sound just as good/better than HE. until then I hope this post helped you.

These are really good news. It means that the project is making progress.
Soon we'll be playing Gran Turismo 3, Dead or Alive 3 and FFX at full speed (LOL )

As I was trying to explain in the above post, I got it way wrong So thanks exo for correcting me, but you see we aren't playing ripped code, We have to do what the emulator says, and from what its saying is play full sound files. Theres a big differance between HE and a SPU2 plugin; We are more dependant on an emulator than HE is if we were playing ripped code our plugin would probably do the exact samething as HE but since we aren't the two are hard to compare hope this ties up and loose questions.

So yeah, there are a lot of things different on the outside, but I would imagine that the technical bits inside that matter the most are about the same; I would expect that someone could make an SPU2 plugin out of HE without killing themselves. - Exo |

I don't know how HE is, but when I was programming my plugin, I made a little sound player before starting to code it, and it played the sounds (with a really bad quality, but it worked), and I can say that it's a lot easier to decompress and play a sound file, than controlling all the registers of the spu2 (there are bout 2000 registers in ps2's SPU, most of them controlling each of the 24 sound channels).
EDIT: it has 24 channels on each core, so there are 48 channels actually. EDIT2: forgot to say good work, kano!

I think once GSMAX improves, the authors can work more on sound more in terms of performance because although they are only seeing a 2 fps decrease, we won't know how it really affects the emulation until the emulator and graphics run at a slightly faster fps[say 10-15 fps].
