edit: this game is weird thou, blend interlacing doesnt half the FPS and VU seems to give the normal flicker problem but without any speed increase...

edit2: seems pcsx2 0.9.2 runs this game better anyways but still the 99% cpu usage persists
I might be wrong, but it was mentioned before that if your CPU usage is above 90%? or so means that you have a weak GPU and it's bottlenecking your CPU.

yeah I know, but u should see the game, it's nothing that great to be bottlenecked by graphic card or cpu (it's 3d chars with 2d background which should make everything faster normally), and as I said both software and hardware rendering had the same speed on those parts which really shouldnt happen

u should try the GS dump and tell me how much FPS u get, maybe u're right and it's only my GPU bottlenecking

I tried it out and had 50 FPS in that spot and showing 86% CPU so I guess it must be your GPU that is the bottleneck.

rough shadow of colossus stats:
(pcsx2tsvn239) right when you get control of your character:
GSdx 1.7:
dx9: 17fps
dx10: 15fps
GSdx svn 735:
dx9: 17fps
dx10: 15fps

soooooo.....no speed difference for me at least. HOWEVER, svn 735 does fix the weird black/brown bar that was appearing on the right side.
also, just found out that .gs files dumped from one version don't work with another version....to be expected, but poo

p.s.- recent releases (don't know specifically when it started) really speed up ICO for me. I get near 90% now on the intro video now, and sprites that had a weird transparent block around them don't anymore; although the bright light effect is still wrapped around the screen a bit.

Only updated the software renderer recently. Some depth texture related bugs were fixed. For example the fog in RE4 looks as it should now.

Now working on speed a bit, ffx between 10-20 fps, beginning point at highroad 14 fps.

wow! I'm shocked to hear you're working on the software part because its been so awesome already. I thought the hardware could use the most work cuz its got tons of nasty bugs. But thats ok any fixes and additional speed are appreciated and i'm sure software will come in handy if ever directX hardware goes out of style

i just tried 1.7 in software mode and getting around 19-20fps on the highroad.
exactly 30fps slower than DX9 hardware.

FFX is quite simple, try SoTC or RE4, 3-4 fps Still, it's about 30% faster than v1.7, not bad.

As I noticed, the speed is proportional to the number of pixels drawn. A few simple fullscreen quads, which doesn't do anything but copies, can kill the fps. I could optimize those to get better results.

Can't it be like videos, where a Key frame is only inserted when there is a Change, or It Takes to Long for One.

I Guess most of the Backgrounds shouldn't be Drawing anything AGAIN, Till there is a Change, Wind moves a tree / Light Cuts The Sky <FFX Boat Scene> (if it is a Dynamic Background or something), Else It's not refreshed, Till some certain Timeout pass !

< errr, Clueless about Videos,Rendering & Programing, But a philosopher (^_^') >

for 3g graphic is not possible...
Objects cast shaodws, lights change, everything is refreshed every frame.
Also the rendering pipeline is not so modificable so deep
