I just installed Vista due to boredom, and I tried this with my Athlon64x2_4000+,GF8600GT, and I'm happy about the results
First, I tried it normally, and I was surprised that I was getting 15 to 18 FPS, compared to 29-43 FPS I got with ZeroGS on XP, or 20-35 FPS with GSDX9 on XP.
And then I realized I forgot to turn on MTGS and DC optimizations, and then I turned them on, tried it again, and I got it between 35-50 FPS, usually at 41 or 43. Not bad at all
My only wish is for FMVs to play correctly.

Thanks Gabest!

First Congratulations! It seems to usually work 100% faster then the latest 9 series releases.
I was very surprised, with the pcsx2 227 build Grand Tourismo 4 got really ingame the first time (driving a car). Now it looks like the attached picture. But only while driving (what I canīt really do like you see ). I think itīs a pcsx problem but zerogs has problems showing the menu in a right way (only since the last build) so maybe you could fix it in the graphic output.

try the specular highlights option in zeroGS, this should remove the corrupt overlay.

edit: i tried it myself, does not work, i see nothing then..

After some time the menu appears, but every is total messed up. Also zeroGS is MUCH slower on GT4. When the driving starts I have 20-40fps in gsdx and 3-5 in zerogs. So it would only help for knowing it works if it can be dranw right in zerogs

this is really sneeky, but i know how to fix that.

press start while ingame, go to the "screen" settings, change "Brightness" to 0

all will be revealed

You mean the windows brightnes settings (didn´t found them yet). And for gsdx or for zerogs?

@NexXxus
missed your post

< did you tried the director's mode?
< works without overlay artifacts, but not the driver mode

Hmm I can press a button I want, nothing will be changed. You meant gsdx right?

he meant the brightness you can set in the game, press start in driving mode to open the menu and then display -> and set brightness to 0.
works fine with GSDX9, but you get a blackscreen after ~5 seconds.

i'll try it with ZeroGS when i created the ISO, i booted it directly from GameDVD before and that was slow.

UI indeed. I can play without getting the black screen ~20fps in windowed mode. (gdsx9 at the moment)

EDIT: I don´t know what to say. It´s fabulous. With the "brightness fix" I get 35-40fps under vista 64bit with gsdx10 which is enough to play smoothly In the last builds of pcsx and gsdx it crashes or don´t work and now everything is working. I didn´t get a crash driving for several minutes.
It was ever my dream to get GT4 working in pcsx2 so sry for so many words .
The picture is a bit flickering and the sound isn´t good at all (but not too buggy). But there has to be something to do for the future :-P

EDIT2: OK I´m fine :-D licence driving and normal races crashes if the intro is finished and it´s the offical start. If anyone is intersted I could look for crash address...

it only freeze on some tracks, nürburgring nordschleife for example, it freeze after ~10 sec driving with both plugins.
i think the GS receive some bad data from the EE and freeze, or there is something wrong with the timers, can't say.

- licence driving (first of national B) crashes on a pcsx2 address
- race (first amateur race) crashes on a gsdx address

Yes maybe both because of pcsx2

Here the dumps in a zip.
They are from XP vm pcsx2 build 227 and gsdx 9 v11.0

yes, GSdx9 works on all XP and vista, while GSdx10 works only on vista (both 32bit and 64bit)

I'm playing FFXII, and at some parts (like the first boss), it slows down heavily to 16-24 FPS, and the console keeps saying:
***PERFORMANCE WARNING : Destination Alpha Tested Used
Why is that so? Maybe if this Destination Alpha Test was disabled I'd get better results? :/

Also, I have another question:
I have a GeForce 8600 GT, and right now I have the chance to sell it for a good price. Do you think that I will need to get a better GFX card to get the games running faster, or is my Athlon 64 x2 4000+ the only performance blocker?

Read some earlier pages, gabest is aware of this issue....it will likely be resolved/improved somewhat in the future.

in short, they're both "performance blockers", if you upgrade the gpu now, the cpu might hold you back in the future, and vice versa.
might as well sell it, get a 8800gt if you can. You can upgrade the cpu later (since you're on the AM2 platform, you have a great choice of cheap cpu upgrades...even phenom if you choose)

actually, i'm in pretty much the same situation as you right now...I'll probably get one of the new G92 8800GTSs when they come out (dec. 12th), and get a phenom sometime next year, when fast speeds will be cheap

CPU is the biggest performance hit thou, both PCSX2 and GSdx are limited by the CPU at some point, sure u can get a better card but most of the times it only means u can run higher settings without performance hit, while running a faster CPU will enhance both the limits pcsx2 and gsdx have making it faster overall
