Talking HDD plugin very soon

Hi

As the title says, you'll have a HDD plugin very soon. I already got my plugin to work, but there're a few issues that I must resolve before releasing. Before, it didn't work, but I was using a size of 2 GBs, when changing to 8 Gbs, it worked (yes, HDD size is selectable).

1 - HDLoader always prompts me for formatting, no matter if the HDD is already formatted. Maybe this is because I don't emulate EEPROM, maybe it's a bug with saves. Any tip will be welcome.

2 - The CDVD plugins don't support changing DVD while PCSX2 is running, so I can't copy any game on my emulated HDD. I think I'll have to either modify an existing plugin or write my own.

But, when these issues will be solved, I'll release this plugin.
Feel free to tell if you think a HDD plugin would be useful or not.

very nice, maybe FFXI will be playable sometime.
lol thats nerdy, emulating a game while there is a unemulated PC version already

but this could be handy for any purposes,
you can find HDLoader bugs easier to make patches.

Yes. My goal is to get HDLoader to work, but maybe PS2Linux will also work, for example.

I already contacted GiGaHeRz and drkIIRaziel, both of them said me there're no doc available, except public docs (Wikipedia) and PS2SDK sources.

Hm didn't notice this till now...

As a note: cdvdgigaherz DOES support changing discs on the fly, but it's slow for reading and highly unstable. I have been wanting to rewrite the threading system since the day I wrote it, but I have never actually got into it...

MetaLife, Inc. (intro)

Crow Blade (intro for now)
Memories - Prayer from the fallen hearts.

My weblog... not like if there was too much to read on it tho.
For anyone interested, there's a mirc script which converts "/me 's" into " * nickname's whatever" and adds a nice "/my" command.

Ah ? Where can I download it ? Can you give me some link please ? It's not in the PCSX2 package. I'll try it and give news whenever I find the time.

btw, I'm unable to solve the problem where HDLoader always asks for formatting, no matter if the HDD is formatted or not. I don't even know if this problem is from my plugin or from the emu. I think it's from the emu. Any help on this would be welcome.

No clue about the problems with hdloader, I never managed to get it to work myself, drk||Raziel was the one doing that part.

Thanks !

EDIT : I don't know what I could have eaten to miss this sticky thread

EDIT2 : Just tested it, it doesn't work, it ALWAYS detects disc as "Illegal disc", it's not just "sometimes" as you said on your thread.

That issue remebers me ps2 slim issue with hdds.

If you are using a slim bios file, then you most likely are running an incompatible hdloader, that would explain it always asking for formatting the hdd, at least on a real ps2.

I know this is really obvious, but it won't hurt to ask, it wouldn't be the first time the simpliest thing is what is overseen.

Best regards

Ah, thanks a lot Suloku. My BIOS is SCPH-70004 V12 PAL, it's a slim BIOS.

EDIT : I tested another BIOS (SCPH-39001), and it does the same thing...

Hey ! Guess what ??? IT WORKS !!! HDLoader now doesn't prompt anymore for formatting !!!

Great thanks to Suloku for his info about incompatibility between HDLoader and PS2 slim BIOS. First I was using a SCPH-70004 BIOS, it didn't work because it was a slim BIOS. I tried with SCPH-39001, it didn't work... But I just noticed that the ROM2 file wasn't found because it wasn't named correctly. I renamed it and tested, HDLoader asked one time for formatting, and didn't ask anymore on next launches.

Let me some time for zipping my plugin and you'll get a working HDD plugin.
However HDLoader isn't usable, except if you get GiGaHeRz's CDVD plugin to work (it supports changing DVD on the fly). I even tried the trick of loading the BOOT.ELF with my game in my drive, it didn't work.
