I've got a problem here. Recently Project 64 has been having problems such as sound stuttering. This never used to happen before. I reinstalled it several times. I backed up the save and plugin folder but the same thing happens. I also reinstalled Windows XP but the problem hasn't gone away. Here's my config: Intel Pentium 4 Prescott 3.0 GHz 512 MB DDR RAM Intel 865GBF onboard graphics (with 96 MB Video Ram) 40 GB Hard disk Windows XP SP2 Project 64 always used to run nicely on my config. But now this is happening to all the games. ![]() This problem mainly occurs when I use Jabo D3D 8 plugin. This never happened before. ![]() Please help.

Do you play any PC games as well?, and do they lag now? Your processor could possibly have problems with cooling. Also, make sure that your graphics settings are as low as they can get and see if that helps.

Thanks for replying. My PC games run fine as they normally do. The only problem is with Project 64. Even 1964 runs fine. Example: I start a new game in Banjo Kazooie. You know the part where you come out of the house. So there the sound stutters in Project 64. (Direct 3D 8 Jabo plugin in Project64). Whereas it runs nicely in 1964 using the same audio and graphics plugin. |

Hmmm...the Banjo games never worked that great on my computer as well. Even with the current WIP releases, Banjo Tooie still doesn't run full speed on my system, but its due to my video card. So let me get this straight though... You were able to play Banjo Kazooie at full speed at one point...but it no longer runs at full speed anymore? Does Mario 64 still run at full speed? (if you even have the game...). If it was running at full speed at one point, this probably means something is wrong outside of the emulator, unless the settings are set too high or wrong...but then again, PC games are working fine as well as other emulators... Also, make sure you update all of your drivers (Audio, Video, etc) if you already haven't done so. This will fix the slow downs a majority of the time. Trying to mix and match video/audio plugins is also another idea... Tell me if you still have problems...

I didn't try Super Mario 64 after this problem occured. The games I tried were Ocarina of Time, Majora's mask, Banjo Kazooie, Diddy Kong Racing, Donkey Kong 64 and F- Zero X. Ocarina of Time also faces some slowdowns at times and I can't understand why. This didn't happen before. I've installed the latest drivers. I am defragmenting my Hard disk right now. I'll let you know after its done. Thanks for your help. How the slowdown would occur: There are points or at a particular place where the game speed reduces, sound stutters and turning off the frame limit option won't work. This is how it slows down. If I close it, it seems that project 64 is using a lot of memory. This never used to happen before and the games I mentioned above (F Zero X might be an exception. I'm not sure of how it works) used to work fine. And if I would turn off the frame limit option the games would run fast (except for Banjo Kazooie; it would pause at times if frame limit was off, but that's ok). |
