Controller suggestions?

We all know how big of a pain in the ass using the keyboard for 3D games is, so there's always the alternative of using a PC controller instead. I've been looking to pick one up, mainly for use with PJ64, any suggestions on what's good?

Well I bought an adaptor that lets me plugin a psx and n64 controller and switch between them at need allthugh I just tend to use the psx controller in n64 games as I prefer it.
I'd recomend getting 1 of these as Ive yet to find a decent pc joystick with all the features of a psx controller.
My psx pad also works great in all pc games that require a joypad to play...

i use...

I use a microsoft sidewinder gamepad

They have nearly the same setup as a PSX controller except for:
1. No L2 or R2. (it does have L1 and R1)
2. It doesn't have those 2 analog thingys.
3. No select button. (I usually just use the extra macro button for select)

It even has 3 bottom buttons (A, B, C,) and 3 top buttons (x,y,z) so you can program L2 and R2 into the 2 extra buttons. I have never used the analog thingys so I wouldn't know what they are for and dont really see the need....

The digital control pad is very similar to the PSX controllers pad. Its even in the same comfortable thumb-easy-to-reach place.

Oh yeah and it has a macro button for use with some software so you can create macros.
It also has a start button.
I usually just use the macro button for select since it doesn't have that.

Oh yeah and i don't have the USB version in the pic but the one i have is exactly the same.

Here is a pic:

EDIT: OK almost the same, the start button (the upper of the 2 buttons on the bottom in the middle) is located farther up. There is also an "M" on the macro button and "start" next to start....lol ok mbe a little obessive

hint hint

my side note in my previous post about "not knowing what those analog thingys are for" was a rather blatant hint....

Could you tell me what they are for and if you have used them?

I got a logitec rumbleman USB. Its good for N64 games, and the analog sticks allow for analog movement (i.e. the farther you push the stick, the faster your character will walk )

to be honest I havent even configured em properly in epsxe and/or project 64..I use the digital controls all the time, even with ace combat :o

....but they can be handy with some (pc) racing games. Because they're analog you can steer more accurate. I've used them a few times for that. They dont get very much use here though...but it's just a decent pad, and very good, even if you dont use the analog thingies.

well

well i still like microsoft sidewinder

Reason is, the playstation controllers my friend has (i play his ps1 at his house sometime)--i have never gotten used to them, they're not very ergonomic. I get wrist whiplash from 3 hours of tekken 3.

On the microsoft sidewinder however i can play for long periods and not get whiplash (as bad).
