Have you tried switching your audio plugin, or tried playing with the settings of the emulator at all? You can also try using the help document in project 64, or using this link:

Well once you find the plugins that you want to use:
http://www.ngemu.com/n64/plugins.php...win32&type=gpu

Take these plugins, and put them into your plugin folder, and then you can select different plugins by going to options > settings, within the emulator itself.
Sound works great for me with Donkey Kong 64 with Jabo's Direct Sound 1.6 plugin, and Azimer's 0.56 WIP 2 works just as well. I'd stick with one of those two.

Just download the emulator from the official project 64 site:
http://www.pj64.net/main/download/func,select/id,2/
Make sure you download version 1.6, and then go here:
http://www.pj64.net/main/download/func,select/id,7/
and download the RDB update. That should be all that you need, as it comes with plugins already.

Edit:
Hmmm, the music should start when running the game. I'm not sure what the problem may be. Are you getting any sound at all? Do you get sound with any other games? Maybe the problem is with the rom.

I already gave a link to those plugins on the site in an earlier post Oh well, ya can't see them all.

Anyways, any luck fixing the sound problem? If nothing seems to work, you can always head down to the project 64 forums and see if they can find what the problem is. Hope everything works out though.
