Unhappy 60 frames per second? Not quite...

Does Project64 actually run at 60fps for anyone? On my little display it fluctuates around 60, never goes below 59... but it sure doesn't look it. It looks more like 20fps... and I should be getting 60, considering I have a fairly powerful PC.

1.4ghz Athlon Thunderbird
512MB PC133
Geforce 2 MX/400 (latest WHQL certified drivers installed as well)
Windows XP Pro

I use PJ64 1.3, Jabo's D3D plugin, at 800x600 windowed. I haven't changed any settings, because whenever I do it makes things slower and I'm forced to change them back to default...

maybe its with the game you are playing when I play Mario64 and Zelda i get 60 vi/s and never goes down, but when i play conker it usually fluctuates to ~50

also setting framebuffer emulation to none can speed up emulation

what game are you exactly playing? try lowering the resolution 640x480x16 perhaps, try playing it on fullscreen, remove some programs that run in the background(virus scanners...) or maybe the game you are playing isn't totaly supported yet like Goldeneye which also runs slow in my system

wat games r u trying to run. certain games like 1080 were broken in pj64 1.3 and now run REALLY slowly. its an issue which jabo/zilmar hav sorted for 1.4 . thats wat ur prob sounds like if ur fps counter is prety much constant at 60vi/s (remember vi/s aint fps!!!).

I'm trying to play Zelda: OOT.
The only thing I ever have in the background, is MSN Messenger, and mIRC... and when I play without them open, it makes absolutely no difference. In Fact... I can have ePSXe open along with PJ64 and it doesn't slow it down any.

As for the resolution; it makes no difference. At 1280 I notice a framerate drop, but from 1152 down, it stays the same framerate.

What is vi/sec? I'm unfamiliar with this term..

the counter at the bottom right of the screen should display xx vi/s (xx= wateva ur pc displays). vi/s is more accurate to the n64 and wats displayed on a television screen compared to displaying fps. basically n64 runs most games at about 25fps. still ur games should be slow, turn the limiter off the default settings, that could boost ur speed.
