Castlevania problems

I just downloaded Castlevania ROM for N64 (project64) but it doesn't work. What settings/plugins I need?

Re: Castlevania problems

It works well with the default setup. I'd first use GoodN64; make sure the rom itself isn't the problem.

Re: Castlevania problems

There are different definitions for "it doesn't work". Error message? Rom doesn't load? What? And you should scan it with goodn64 to see if it's a good dump. And finally, saying stuff like that will get this thread closed.

Error message:
permanent loop that cannot be exited

I'll try to check this rom.

Good N64 scan deep message:

"e6036665 a39c62b7 Castlevania (U) (V1.0) [b4] (L-12582912)",
Imagename: [CASTLEVANIA ] Cnty: USA Ver: 1.0 ID: D3
Hdr: 87cb69fe Boot: 90bb6cb5 Hdrchk: f35d5f95:8afe3d69

Is it ok?

Re: Castlevania problems

Nope, I think it isn't...
It must be Castlevania (U) (V1.0) [!]

No, [b4] indicates a bad dump. But! Download these patches:

http://www.emutalk.net/showthread.php?threadid=12078

Find the Castlevania (U) [b4] patch and use an IPS patcher to hard patch the rom (make a back-up before hand). Re-scan the rom, and if the rom patched correctly, you will have the [!] symbol. It should now work properly with the default plugins.

On a side note, scan all your roms and patch them where appropriate to get good dumps. (although the overdump patches don't seem to work and a patch does not exist for every bad dump.)

Re: Castlevania problems

Huhhhh...

I downloaded "Bad-to-Good_N64_ROMs_Patches" and "IPSWin2.0" to apply the patch.
Renaming ROM using GoodN64 is OK. When I apply appropriate [b4] patch, IPS 2.0 note "File patched successfuly".
When I try to rerename ROM nothing happens.
When I rescan patched ROM, [b4] still appear and, of course, it doesn't work (it has the same size as non-pached ROM).

By the way, there is message "[video] primary_framebuffer:menus" in PJ64's Notes (default plugin). PJ64 is set to all default settings.

Re: Castlevania problems

I have a Castlevania ROM with the same GoodName as you - I get the same error message, and I also tried using IPS patcher (my favourite N64 emulation tool! ) to patch it. No good - the patch doesn't seem to like this one.

I have the cart somewhere - but no flasher... and I really wanted to play this one too .

If "viper" means anything to you, then we both have the same ROM .
