Problem with emulator
I have been having a problem with project 64. Games on it have been running with a very slow frame rate.
Specs: 2.0 GHZ intel Celeron (upgrading to 2.8ghz HT) 1024mb Pc2700 Geforce FX 5200 Ultra Is it my processor or videocard? Do u know what are good settings to have it on. I want the games to look good and optimize my graphics card. Also, will my processor upgrade have a huge impact on the fps because frankly celerons suck. |

What do you mean by "slow," and is this game specific? Which game(s)? Frankly, most N64 games are on the slow side, less than 30 fps generally. If the emulator is showing 60 VI/s (50 VI/s PAL) then you're at the proper speed. Your specs shouldn't be an issue.

It is slow under any setting games will go fast initially but suddenly slow to where it is almost unplayable. I especially notice this during cutscenes it slows to under 20fps. It dos this to all games even with all effects off. Is it my CPU because celerons are weak.

Re: Problem with emulator
Celerons are weak but they shouldn't be that weak. Tried other emus like 1964 and Nemu?

Maybe you are using a crazy res like 1600x1200 or a widescreen res. try running at 640x480 and gradually going up. Try running full screen. Use Jabo's DirectX6, Glide64 0.42 or 0.43u++ WIP ( Glide64 Offical Mess. Board ) with evoodoo 3.99 beta, or (recommended) glN64() 0.41. Make sure you have THE lastest dentonators, they are mainly for FX cards i belive.
On a side note, did you know Gonetz was the first to tackle motion blurring? he's my hero

Re: Problem with emulator
They are compatible, they just degrade the speed. Turn them off for a boost in speed.
Goldeneye is slow with PJ64 using Jabo's plugin with my 1800+ Processor, I just get fullspeed (1024X768 Res). Resident Evil 2 also has problems (instability). Using 1964 will speed everything up, especially games that aren't fast in PJ64. The new 1964 will be very fast and compatible with Jabo's LLE Audio. Changing the core is the best way to boost speed, then the next best method is changing graphics plugins. |
