Exclamation project 64 crash in windows XP

Project 64 v 1.5 crashes in windows XP. i think its a strange plug-in related problem because 1964 does the same thing.

I think the culprit is jabos directX6 version 1.5 ( i think thats the name, but i cant find out since it wont open. I get the usual projec~1.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close blah blah blah. When i click on the thing to see what the error report contains, i see jabo_direct3d6.dll is mentioned.

If i delete the plug in, it works fine.

setup if it helps: 1.4 ghz athlon
128MB geforce4 TI4200
256 DDR ram
windows XP pro

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

All I can say is try to uninstall Project64 (via the uninstall registry entries in the Project64 folder)

This problem has appeared many times. Some have suggested that DX9 might be at fault, but that is still uncertain. I'd be interested in knowing which DX you're currently using. Anyway, the only fix at the moment is to use a different video plugin, Jabo's v1.4 for instance.

thx for the replies. Im using DX9, but i dont think thats the problem. i can use an older version (1.3) of jabos directx6 plug-in and it works fine. I can also get directX6 1.5 plug-in to work by adding it to the plug in directory after PJ64 starts. Strangely though, other games stopped working (start wars jedi outcast demo crashes after the movies), and it seems like the video is behind the game a little bit in GTA3.

After messing around, i got it to do something different. Instead of just a crash, now after it crashes PJ64 causes a stop error in winXP. Im not sure its DX so much because i can use petes DX plugins for ePSXe and not have any problems. At this point im clueless

I didn't mean to say that DX9 is the problem, but there may be a conflict between microsoft's latest and Jabo's latest. Frankly, I don't know much other than what I've read, and we all know how accurate anecdotal evidence can be.

ok so the problem is jabos plug-in or jabos plug-in doesnt agree with DX9? im not quite so sure its that (but i could be wrong) because i can get it to work (read above to see how) and it used to work fine with DX9. the problem just kind of happened. if it is a problem with the plug-in, will the issue be addressed by the next release?

Well, as far as anyone knows Jabo is finished. It's not the first time he has said that however, so it's anyone's guess. I wouldn't count on it though. Fortunately, plugin development continues in earnest on other fronts.

darn. jabo if you ever read this thread, i have to say thanks for the excellent plug-in!!

heres another thought though, could it be a virus? (not jabos plug-in but something affecting pj64?) i just found out ive got w32.pinfi and it is a PAIN IN THE BUTT!!!! im restalling now, (got to the point where AV software doesnt help) but was just wondering if a virus could cause this type of behavour. It stopped all programs from starting, unless it was a file being opened, which i used to my advantage to get some things opening. Anyway, avoid that virus unless you want to reinstall and thanks for all the help.

It was on the Ngemu main page for a couple of hours now.

Could be what is causing it. Project64 activates the plugin, and if their is something wrong with the proggy, it will crash.

This is what happens when you check the main page infrequently... you miss out on stuff.
