sound in duke nukem zero hour

On the us version of duke nukem the sound is just fine, but since it locks up after the first level I'm playing the european version.
In the european version lots of sound don't play and some sounds are very low compared to other sounds. Can't even make out what duke's saying. Tried all the sound plugins.
If anybody have any sollutions or suggestions i'd appreciate it.
