Help. Never emulated before

I need advice on emulating, as this is my first time. I have no idea what to do. So I understand you need to download Project 64 and then find a ROM for the game you want and download it. Then what? How do you put it on Project 64? Can anyone give me the steps to downloading games and playing them?
