Paper Mario Battle Transition Slowdown

OK Using Rice's 6.1.4 plugin (As it seems to run the game better than 6.1.1). I'm not far into the game and whenever I enter a battle, it slows down to about 6 fps for a good 5-10 seconds before going up to full speed while the battle fades in. I'm assuming theres some sort of transition effect that is supposed to be happeneing, but I cant tell as the game goes to black in between the map and the battle. I'll admit my system isnt great (running pj64 on a 1ghz machine, 512 ram and a geforce fx 5500).

Anything I can do to fix this problem? I tried using evoodoo and glide64 but that didnlt work at all and gave me about 4 fps tops.

EDIT: Also, the game locks up at times, so far it has locked up at:
1. The scene where The 4 Koopas show their "special movie" to bowser (Aparently rice couldnt display the required effect or something)
2. Entering the star mountain area (Above the house you trade the star pieces in)
3. After Twink leaves Princess Peach the first time.

I've had to switch back to Jabo to get past these parts (and unfortunately, have to deal with the flickering from time to time).

need more pwerful cpu and graphics cars, i did find a good glide 64 plugin and glide wrapper dedicated for glide 64 to speed it up allot, although which ones were they cos i cant remember nevertheless i was running a dualcore 3ghz and a geforce 6600 plus a gig of ram and i noticed minor lag, i cant see how in hell your system can pull it off when mine barely did in most scenes/games
