Zelda OoT: can't revert to young link

I'm playing Project64 and when I play the song of time at the appropriate place nothing happens as adult link. Has anyone else had this problem?

Please expound. Where are these codes entered? Does it simply change link, yet keep the surroundings the same, or do you play in the other world.

In project 64 there are codes to play as young, or adult link, simply enable the young link code and walk through a door.

the door of time cannot be opened by adult link.

This may be a stupid question: how does old link become young link, ie. how do you go back to the old world? I may have been doing it wrong.

when you are done with the either the first or the two first temples as an adult you go back to the temple of time and put your sword into the pedestal again

I feel like an idiot. I was doing the wrong thing to get back. I thought it was the ocarina that got you back, but it was the sword in it's stone.
