FFVII Loading Problem

This is my first time using ePSXe with the FFVII cd, but whenever there there is a transition from screen to screen, the next screen never appears and all I see is a black screen with a bit of the outline from the screen that I was in. However, if I were to F1 save just before going onto the next screen, reset the game, start from that save point and then immediately to go the next screen, the screen loads. Then if I were to leave that screen into another one the problem appears again...There is also a problem in that the swirly thing when encountering enemies do not appear. I would gladly appreciate some help on these problems.

I am currently using ePSXe 1.6.0 with Pete's OpenGL Driver 1.76, P.E.Op.S. DSound Audio Driver 1.9, ePSXe CDR WNT/W2K core 1.5.2.

Welcome to Emuforums, hohoho0214!

Can you post your GPU Pete plugin-configuration? It would help a lot.

At least, those settings are too low.

I don't want to try to explain, how to set them. I copied these settings from my computer that I used with my GeForce 3 back in time:

Plugin: Pete's OpenGL Driver 1.1.76
Author: Pete Bernert
Card vendor: NVIDIA Corporation
GFX card: unknown board/AGP/SSE2

Resolution/Color:
- 800x600 Fullscreen - NO desktop changing [32 Bit]
- Keep psx aspect ratio: on

Textures:
- R8G8B8A8
- Filtering: 3
- Hi-Res textures: 0
- VRam size: 64 MBytes

Framerate:
- FPS limitation: on
- Frame skipping: off
- FPS limit: Auto

Compatibility:
- Offscreen drawing: 4
- Framebuffer texture: 2
- Framebuffer access: 3
- Alpha multipass: on
- Mask bit: on
- Advanced blending: on

Misc:
- Scanlines: off
- Line mode: off
- Unfiltered FB: off
- 15 bit FB: off
- Dithering: off
- Screen smoothing: off
- Screen cushion: off
- Game fixes: on [00000001]

Now, at least you should have battle swirl working.

If you still get black screens, post again. We will help you.

Lord Kane has a lot of good material about ePSXe configurations. You can also check his website:

I'm using a Pentium III 1.2Ghz with 256 Ram and a 32mb Nvidia TNT 2 video card. I've set all the settings to what Titus03 gave me, and things look very nice and all but do you think those settings might cause me lag as I progress through the story? I haven't seen the black screen yet, but it still might come back since for the duration of the first mission it never happened at all, it started after the train ride.

you might want to use another emulator like psx or one of petes software plugins , i dont know if that set up is strong enough for the settings titus posted, you can try turning off filtering but i dont know how much good that will do you.

Try using 2,0,2 for your GPU settings.
