new to emus, need FF VII help

Hey I'm new to emu's so please bear with me if I sound dumb. I'm trying to play FF VII and there are a few problems that occur that I'm wondering if someone could help me fix.

-There's no battle screen swirl (when you encounter an enemy)
-The sound/music lags quite a bit whenever the screen changes (like going into a building, or going to battle)
-The game is pretty pixelated.

I'm running the game from the original disc and I'm using Pete's D3D Driver 1.76 for video and Pete's DSound Audio Driver 1.15 for sound.

Any help would be appreciated.

the battle swirl thing is a somewhat common issue for people, i think its mostly associated with the d3d dx6 1.76 plugin but im not 100% on that. there is however a game fix you can enable in the video config for that plugin that should fix that issue to some degree. so what settings are you using for the d3d plugin? and what cd rom plugin are you using?

for your sound plugin, i always recommend using eternal spu 1.41. if you want to you can use that plugin and try the settings i usually use with it:

i have the top 3 boxes ticked

in the actual config mine is set up like this:

audio device- directsound
buffer size- 80 (doesnt have to be this, so set it to your preferance)
audio-out method- thread

all 3 special game fixes enabled

"wait for XA buffer is free" enabled under the "misc" section

neill's reverb

one thing you might want to know: if you dont really care about using your hardware to allow the emulator and the plugins to fancy up the graphic quality with a renderer like D3d or openGL, you could try using another emulator like psx that doesnt us a plugin system like epsxe. generally its easier to set up, all you need is the ps bios and the cds. the game will look exactly or very very close to the way it would on a real ps and most of the issues you say you are experiencing should not show up.
