i believe, though im not positive since im not using an ATI myself and i could be thinking of a completely different issue, that this is an issue with ATI cards and thier lack of good opengl support, and unfortunately there isnt much anyone can do about it until their crappy drivers are fixed. you should try using one of the direct3d plugins instead.

We're in the same boat
Welcome to the black triangles problem. Submit a catalyst feedback support ticket and send them screenshots and threads on this site that discuss the issue. also download PC wizard 2008 from CPUID and look under the 'video' tab, look at opengl and see if it says 'no, software' next to hardware acceleration. Report it, when you get an automated reply check back on 'my support' and say it didn't solve the problem.

Attn Pete: OpenGL GPU Plugin, vertex buffer/primitive assembly bug - Pete`s Messageboard Forum - Seite 1 Performance issues w/ Pete's OpenGL2 2.8 and Vista/Vista ATI Drivers FFVII black triangles? Black traingles problem on XP FF7 OGL2 configs These are all links to threads covering the same issue. I'm really surprised to see this even happens on a newer card as powerful as an HD2900XT. You'll have to stick with OpenGL though because the battle swirl slows down to about 2fps on DirectX.

Just to let you know, I've now tried the leaked Catalyst 8.1 Beta with an updated OpenGL version and it still doesn't work! Looking at the plugins help forum someone said 7.4 might work so I'll try that and let you know how it goes, although I'm sure I've used all versions of catalyst from 7.2.

Gotcha, it's seems AMD doesn' really care about their bugs and stuff.. I've just mailed them. let's see how would they respond. Ok they've just responded. thus far they've only said general things like update the Motherboard Drivers, Chipset drivers in particular. update the Bios (BUT ONLY IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING!!!) and stuff like that. Don't know about you, for me It didn't help. I'll keep ou up to date. Last edited by Degeon; January 14th, 2008 at 20:33. Reason: update |

Catalyst 7.1 to 7.4 don't work, 7.5 wouldn't install properly giving me a blinking monitor light unless i booted into safe mode, 7.6 and 7.7 didn't do anything, and now I'm back to 8.1 beta. All my drivers are up to date too (audio, intel inf, motherboard bios, all windows updates, printer, codecs, antivirus, directx).

*sigh* Reinstalled Vista, updated all drivers/software, installed Catalyst 8.1 no luck, 8.1 hotfix, no luck, the OpenGL driver version is the same in both of those and the leaked beta 6.14.10.7275. Made more screenshots and submitted another support ticket this time under 'Feature Request'.

this sounds like the part where you tell ATI to shove it and put your money towards their competition.

AMD Customer Care There is the 8.1 Hotfix driver, that might fix the BSOD. As for Catalyst Crew, its on their support pages, you have to register then you make a support ticket and select 'Catalyst Crew Feedback' in the drop down box, 8.1 wasn't listed earlier so you might have to type it in after changing driver version to 'other'
