Trouble with Tales of Destiny II (US), Tales of Phantasia (JP)
Whenever I try to play either of these two games, I have no issues with visuals, but large amounts of audio are cut out - all of the voice acting is missing, all of the sound during anime cutscene are cut out, and a large majority of the in-battle voice work is gone. Do I need a new audio plugin, should I try a new emulator, or what?

im a little suspicious about the ToP playing method you are using for reasons relating to the rules of this forum, but will ignore it for the moment since i am not completely certain.
as for the first game you mentioned, try using the eternal spu 1.41 (non-lite) plugin with settings like these: have the top 3 boxes ticked in the actual config mine is set up like this: audio device- directsound buffer size- 80 (doesnt have to be this, so set it to your preferance) audio-out method- thread all 3 special game fixes enabled "wait for XA buffer is free" enabled under the "misc" section neill's reverb if that doesnt work either let me know or try using epsxe version 1.5.2 (if you are currently using 1.6.0). some games have issues with that version and actually have better compatibility with 1.5.2.

OK, I'll try that, thanks.
And for the record, I'm using ToP legitimately. I bought the Playstation The Best version from Super Potato, then I used MagicISO to rip the ISO from it, then I used throughhim's translation patch to patch an English translation to the ISO, then I burned the patched ISO onto a CD. I don't think anything of what I did was illegal. |

oh if thats the case, no, you didnt. your fine then. let me know if that doesnt work though.
one thing i might add, it might be worth it to try and create an ISO using something like ISObuster or magicISO (like you said you use) for the 1st game you mentioned, the one you are playing directly from the cd. some games work better while played from a cd, and some dont, so you should try it both ways. another thing to take note of is that some problems with games when being played via an ISO could be resulted from the program you used to make the ISO, so you should try different ones just in case the program missed or didnt pick up on something vital in the process.

Use Eternal SPU 1.4.1 sound plugin and enable all special fixes (as well as XA etc...). Works fine either on ePSXEe 1.5.2 or 1.6.0.
Did you patch a BIN/CUE or MDF/MDS image ? I use a patched BIN/CUE and just launch it directly (run iso). No need for a virtual drive. The CD-ROM plugin is CDRmooby 2.8 with: -repeat all CDDA tracks -subchanel data both enabled. Don't forget to set CDDA volume around 50/60.
