Weird freezing error in Breath of Fire III.
I'm in the town of Rhapala in Breath of Fire III, and I can't do anything without the game freezing up-- when I talk to someone, the game freezes, when I try to leave the town, the game slowly fades to black and the music stops, and when I try to even go into my menu, the screen just goes black with the music still playing. I open from a save state, obviously, which may be my problem, but I'm not sure. Point is, I don't have a saved game, ick.
I've tried running the game from the .iso I ripped from the disc, the disc itself, and a completely different .iso that I received elsewhere: the same thing happens with each one. I've restarted my computer, I have downloaded an older version of ePSXe, and still no dice. Right now I'm using the scph1001 - USA bios (I'm in the UK right now, but my game is a US version), Pete's OpenGL driver 2.8, ePSXe SPU core 1.5.2 for sound. My machine has a gig of ram, an ATI Mobility Radeon x1400, and intel dual-core adding up to 1.73ghz of processor. XP Pro. I don't know if you can help, but if you can, it'd be much appreciated. I'm really kind of flabberghasted at ROMmage beyond basic super-nintendo fare. *egh* And it's not a huge problem if it can't be helped -- I realize it's likely an issue with save states -- I've found a dexdrive save that's only about five hours (*wince*) ahead of where I am right now. So, um, if you can, help, and if you can't, don't feel bad about it?

Save states can load corrupt data. It seems like you're experiencing firsthand the symptoms of a corrupt save state
![]() I think you might be out of luck. Let this be a lesson to you to use memory card saves! The proper procedure is to first save to the memory card, then save state. Also, make sure you exit ePSXe properly (press escape then close the GUI) so your memory card is actually saved. Save states aren't inherently bad; I used the above method all throughout four discs of FF9. If you have a problem with a save state, just go back and load your last memory card save. Also keep in mind that there are multiple save state slots. I would also recommend you to save in different slots so you can load a different save state if you're having problems. You can never have too many saves--better safe than sorry ![]() PS. There's no need to bump your thread or anything like that...just post and wait for it to be answered. Keep in mind this forum serves the entire world, so when you posted around noon, it was 4 AM here. Admins have to sleep too! |

Thank you! Yeah, I've learned that the hard way.
But I'll keep that in mind in the future, and be careful not to repeat that mistake. And I wasn't meaning to bump it- I was just editing my post to reflect upon the fact that I'd found a dex drive save, so that my queries weren't exactly urgent. |
