anyway, this isn't about Vista, its about ATI's ICD or a possible problem in Petes OGL on ATI cards

Still happens in Catalyst 7.12. Unistalled 7.11, turned off UAC and antivirus then installed 7.12, restarted and still nothing.

Been to Pete's messageboard and he says the plugin is fine, its ATI's fault. They better have an ICD when that OpenGL 3 comes out or I'm going to Nvidia! I only play playstation games but the X1600pro sucks, the fan is very noisy and not worth investing in an aftermarket cooler because the card isn't worth anything these days. Here is a picture of the card, I don't think its standard...

Sorry to bring up a dead topic but - I have a Radeon 9600XT running the latest Catalyst drivers (7.12) in Windows XP and I get the black polygon issue (exactly like the screenshots posted in this thread). I've had to revert to Pete's D3D.. which seems to work fine, but isn't as pretty.

Definitely a shame.

Downgrade to Catalyst 7.11 or Catalyst 7.10 opengl the "super inteligent" morrons of the year ATI Driver Team broke OpenGL on XP 2

Update: Catalyst 8.3 doesn't work either, also, I noticed that the xp64 version contains atioglx2.dll and atio6ax2.dll but the vista64 doesn't could this be the problem, I've sent ATI 4 or 5 support tickets and complained that for over a year their drivers haven't worked.

Can anyone with an ATI card and XP64 please check if opengl works for them?

How can I get them to fix their stupid drivers, I had to manually add the ICD to the registy but it still didn't fix the triangles. I can get how they only care about PC gams but come on, it works on my other computers Nvidia FX5200 AGP 128mb. Can any of the graphics experts/programmers help with finding out what the cause of the triangles is, and if any OpenGL pc games have the triangle problem? I've just downloaded a Quake 4 demo in the hope that it won't work.

For anyone else this is what I did to install the ICD:

Open notepad, paste the following
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\OpenGLDrivers]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\OpenGLDrivers\ati2dvag]

"Flags"=dword:00000001
"Dll"="atio06axx.dll"

atio6axx.dll for 64 bit Vista
atioglxx.dll for 32 bit.

Save the file as ATI OpenGL.reg then double click it.

excuse me? wtf is amd on about, if the opengl plugin shows there are faults in the icd, then it is clear they will show up elsewhere,

someone report this to the guys at opengl.org, im sure they'd like to be informed that the amd drivers are not opengl fully functional.

Further more, inform as many forums as possible and make sure to note that the nvidia card, which not only has better quality and speed, does not have this problem.

Okay, same problem in FF8. ATI card, black triangles on world map. OGL2 plugin... can't begin to describe how many different plug ins and configurations I've tried so far just to fix OTHER problems. Now that I fixed those problems (choppy movies, gameplay, sound, etc.) I got this black triangle garbage. K, so uninstalled newer catalyst drivers (didn't check version... probably 8.x), installed 7.11. God this crap takes forever. Watching a pot of water come to a boil makes this look slow. Got some steam error at the end... whatever, I don't play TF2 that often anyway. Now I gotta reboot. Great. Rebooted, no more black triangles. So, as a recap:

1- ATI sucks
2- Catalyst 7.11 fixes (or undoes) the black triangles.

1 thing to try is using older icd with newer drivers, but if ati are like nvidia, they'll have some form of version protection which disables the ICD if it doesn't match the driver.

Now, on top of the Triangle problem all the menus in FF8 look like this and it even happens in the directX and software plugins.
