Smaller error compilation
Greetings.
I've been informed that chrono Cross works with EPSXE 1.5.2 and it did, whereas 1.6 only freezes upon pressing new game. Now, I didn't try these bugs on the older version, but I know they exist : Heat haze effect is emulated badly sometimes, independant of plugin. Scene transition effects never go smoothly, save for the one patch in teh emulator. Persona 2 : Eternal punishment has a MAJOR crashing issue. Right before the battle, during the battle switch, during battle, right after battle to a few seconds before battle, the game decides it will crash randomly at any select point. I pat myself in the back since I managed to avoid that using save states till halfway into the game (Sewers), but then I saved befoer a crash battel and could not continue -_-. Thus I'm asking if you are aware of this problem - and if so, if there is a fix for that, or not...thanks much in advance <3. |

Use a mix of savestates and memcards. Save to memcard every once in a while, use sstates only as a quick save/load feature. Persona 2 indeed likes to crash randomly at somes places, but with patience it seems to be ok.

the people of the epsxe emulation scene are pretty much aware of all the bugs in it's emulation, but due to a loss of the source code nothing can be done.

Loss of source code how?
That would explain the years with the lack of updates... Hrrm...damn it'd be nice if they could fix that.. There's not much poinf in saving to a memory card and then using save states really. The game only randomizes the battle a very, very select few times, even if I reload the game, the odds of it crashing are 30% per battle. |

HDD crash "There's not much poinf in saving to a memory card and then using save states really. Doesn't prevent crashing, but helps going further by not losing the progress made between Load Game and Random Crash

While that's true, I'm the type of person who haaaaaaates losing XP. Not literally, but losing progress like that really puts a fencepost in my ass if you know what I mean :-D.

Yeah, after 1 or 2 random crashes in a row, I took the habit to save after almost every battle/loading time for the same reason :I "Killjoy Killjoy...Y'know, your name sounds awfully familiar ..." Not in my country (Frenchies usually suck at learning foreign languages)

You prolly saw an impostor ![]() "And yeah, I save stated after every single bloody battle >-<. Not sure how, but in the end like I said, I managed to catch one that didn't let go and was bad XP..." That's why I mentionned memcards too. sstates are just meant to be quick save/load, be cause they can easily be corrupt or cause glitches (it once corrupted my character sprites in this game, and also caused my PE2 to crash at a particular place everytime...). So, when you're about to leave the game, or simply want to make a safe save, use memcards. BTW, you can rotate sstates slots by pressing F2, so you're not forced to overwrite the same one everytime your pressed F1. Though, I'm gonna insist on the fact that memcards SHOULD be used, and sstates should be considered to be what they truly are: a bonus feature

Save states have never ever bugged up my game :-d. Infact, they FIX errors for me.
Chrono Cross, using Eternal SPU 1.5 . Sometimes, a particular note or two in the game hangs or "freezes" and kind of keeps "beeping" in an annoying manner. I just SS, then LS and it's gone :-D. It also influences some randomizers in games. Such as breath of fire IV. |

Yeah, I know, but they're rare exceptions.
Summary: Memcards = Safe Memcards + Sstates = Safe + quickness bonus for lazy bastared like us Sstates only = Still quick + unsafe. Trust me, you wouldn't get alsy the same exact crash if you didn't save it this way. You'd get past if you had just used a regular save, leaving you with just a chance to get a random crash, and not one you always get after pressing F3. Cause even when they're not directly the problem, it's easy to accidently save at critical moments suchs as... Before an expected crash you weren't aware of before it occured At a place you can't go back from if you're stuck (some game devs like to trap the players, forcing them to reload from the last savepoint) During a battle that seems to be too hard (forgot to heal, not enough time to do it before being attacked, low damage to enemy, single hit death to all your chars) Etc...

I did screw a fight up like that in Vagrant Story, saved when I got hit but XP.
I still like States better. They never did that for me, really. I'm responsible I guess XD. So sorry for doubleposting but editnig wouldn't have bumped this with the update. I just remembered that Vigilante 8 English loves to randomly freeze, too .Most often during jumps, I noticed I'm not sure about second offense, but maybe that does the same thing too... There's a ccd file with it which I'm told you can use to make the game play music but I don't know how XP... Last edited by Blackwing Drago; January 21st, 2007 at 09:47.
