I'm sure that I'm doing something wrong. Okay, what I am attempting to do is to enable the "infinite health" hack for Metal Gear Solid.
I have found two different GS codes, one labeled v1.0 and the other labeled v1.1 (source: Cheat Code Central) v1.0= 800B7526 0600 v1.1= 800B752E 03E8 I have tried entering both into the "edit cheat codes" dialog box in numerous ways. None have worked. As far as I can tell, there is no master code for this game. Can someone please explain to me exactly which code I use, and exactly what to enter in the "address" and "value" fields in the emulator? Also, are there any particular tricks or conditions necessary? For example, can I enable and disable the cheat in-game, or do I have to enable it before running the CD? I'm using ePSXe v1.5.2. I looked for a similar thread that might already exist on the forum, but I found nothing. Any help would be highly appreciated. |

Apparently he is, judging by the other thread. ArchangleM127, combine both your woes into the same thread, since they are virtually the same.
Check out this thread. And don't load off save states. |

Actually, two separate woes, but I take your point. The first post (this thread) concerned trying to enter the codes using the built-in prompt in ePSXe. The second thread concerned problems encountered when using PSX emulation cheater. You can delete the other thread if you like. I posted it separately because I figured it was a problem with PSX emulation cheater rather than with ePSXe.
Basically, I'm finding it impossible to survive the interrogation sequence in MGS because the input rate of a keyboard doesn't allow a sufficient rate of key-presses to maintain your health. I know I'm hitting the button fast enough, but the keyboard only processes every two or three key-presses. Thus, I must resort to cheat codes. I don't particularly care *how* I can enable the "infinite health" code and run the game properly. Every approach I've tried thus far has met with a dead end. I'm a little frustrated right now. |

sigh, these keyboard questions frustrate me. Just press select to submit, or buy a controller if it's that much of a problem. Props for even getting that far with the keyboard anyway.
And yes your questions are the same, even though you may not realize it ePSXe doesn't have a built in cheat prompt--the "cheats" are not gameshark or similar, rather they are like mini hacks. So that's not what you're aiming for. I would've kept the other one open as it was more of a proper thread, but this one already had replies and that one didn't.Did you read the thread I linked to? It has step by step advice on how to use PEC. I'm wondering if the torture sequence uses different life stats than the main game. You could try enabling PEC, pressing control H in game, and using the built in code creator function. I used to create MGS gameshark codes on the PSX, it's quite easy. |

Yes, of course I could submit, but that gets you Otacon's ending, and I've already beaten that. ^^
I've attached my memory card as a .zip file. That's extremely nice of you to offer, and I'm quite willing to take you up on it! I've actually encoded both cards, since I wanted to be 100% certain. It should be on the first one. There's only one MGS save, and it should start you right after the first battle with Wolf. If you can get past the interrogation without submitting, then just save it at the earliest possible moment and send it back. I can take it from there. Thanks again! |

Actually, a keyboard is perfectly adequate for most aspects of PSX games, since they don't require pressure-sensitivity like the PS2 does, for example.
This is the sole issue I have with it.And yes, I read the thread you linked to. When I tried to enter the codes (the same ones I listed at the beginning of this thread) it said the values were out of bounds or some such. I forget the exact phrasing of the error message. Suffice it to say that I don't think they'll work this way. I dunno, maybe someone just made them up to torment people. ^^ I've also been messing around with the built-in codes for MGS, but apparently my copy of MGS isn't the same as the ones in the database. I've even tried to use codes for the PAL and foreign-lang versions. Nada. Either I get severe graphics foulups or I get normal game performance with no cheat function. As far as I know, my copy of MGS is just the normal US version, so I don't know what's going on. I'm kinda past caring. I don't normally cheat, but I can't find any other way past the sequence with Ocelot. Unless Shendo can manage it somehow.
