Final Fantasy IX on low-spec PC
I have managed to get Final Fantasy IX running at reasonably good speed with few annoyances. The only slow points are in the FMVs and where the battle swirl *should* be. Both slowdowns are tolerable, as everywhere else the game runs at 60FPS. The only graphical flaw I have found is that there is an occasional line through the speech bubbles.
I am playing from CD-R copies i made of my original discs. My DVD drive doesnt seem to read original discs. Here are the specs of the PC i am using, an IBM T20 laptop: Intel Mobile Pentium 3 @700mhz S3 Savage/IX 1014 Graphics 8mb 512MB RAM 6x Toshiba DVD-ROM (running faster than 6x via registry hacks) Saitek P880 Dual Analog USB controller (almost like a PSX contoller) And my configuration: Pete's D3D Driver 1.76 ------------------------------- Fullscreen, 16 bit @ 800x600 Texture Quality: R4 G4 B4 A4 Hi-Res Textures: None Texture Filtering: 2-Extended FPS limit on Off-Screen Drawing: Standard Alpha Multipass: On Unfiltered framebuffer updates: On If anyone has any suggestions to improve the configuration, without degrading frame rate, I am open to them. EDIT: I forgot to mention that I am using ePSXe 1.6.0.

Allow me to step in, I (still) got a similar laptop.
Use Off screen drawing set to SHOW MORE STUFF. Framebuffer textures and access set to emulated vram. If fight swirls dont show properly, you might want to set framebuffer access to full software drawing, but will be slower. Also, unfiltered framebuffer updates can garbage screen sometimes. |

Don't use ePSXe 1.6.0 with FFIX because you can experience crashes, use ePSXe 1.5.2 instead.
And you could try to make an ISO, the game will work smoother that way.
