Do not play FF9 with ePSXe 1.6.0 use 1.5.2 instead.
And it is better that you don't have downloaded files... You can make ISO's by yourself, just follow trough that guide. If the game is PAL you will have to apply a PPF patch to remove copyprotection.

I have a question:
how can you load all the 4 cd's at once?

I tried ff9 on ePSXe 1.6.0 and the game and the savegames are working just fine.I was using P.E.Op.S. Soft Driver 1.17. On Pete's OPENGL2 driver 2.8 it was working so slow.Probably because of my laptop specs. Also I didn't have any problems with the sound and cd reading.
I tried it on ePSXe 1.5.2 also and it was lagging a little. Not much but a little yes.Anyway, every game for psx which I have I tried on both versions and they all work better on 1.6.0 I don't know why you have troubles with ff9 on 1.6.0

btw reason why people have issues with ff9 on 1.6 is that on some of the fmvs the game freezes up and stops working, easy fix is save before those points(really just play till it happens than go back and save before it happens again) and playing on 1.5.2 than save and go back to 1.6 as it does work better on 1.6 or at leats for me it does.
