Saving progress using ePSXe

Hi - I was wondering (and sorry if this has been covered by another thread), how does one normally save a game using ePSXe? To put that better, are the default memory card files (epsxe000.mcr and epsxe001.mcr) set to work automatically? I configured everything properly (or at least properly enough to get the game running), but when I start a new game and get past the intro to a save-able area and try to save, the save option is in grey and I can't select it (typical of a playstation without a memory card inserted). ePSXe seems to support the save function and Legend of Legaia (the game in question), but is there something that I need to do in order to have the game acknowledge that there is a memory card and that it is able to save in it?

When I try to load a game from either of the default blank .mcr files (using the game's continue option at the startup screen), the game will access it and show a bunch of empty slots, but it seems that it won't let me save a game's progress - does anyone have any ideas about this?

Thanks

When you select a memory card to use it is the same as if you put the memorycard in a real PSX...
I never had any troubles saving on memorycards, but maybe the problem is in the game,
maybe you need to get some item or something to be able to save, have you tried any other game?

is your memory card folder read only, or are you playing out of a zip archive? both of those are bad.

I was just about to reply, saying that you didn't need anything ingame to save the game, but then I realized it was a valid question - I've played the game before, but by mistake forgot that there were savepoints. Also, I removed read-only from the memcard folder and everything in it, and saving is working fine now. Thanks a bundle

P.S. If I had played the game a little longer without panicking about saving at the beginning I would have never posted this - is there any way I can remove the entire thread?

yes, you can delete it.

but it's ok, it serves a good purpose. don't be embarrassed. i doubt many will read this, and if they do, they might learn a couple good things:

1. in RPGs, the save option is usually greyed out till you get to a save area.
2. you need to unset read only to save to memory card

and if anyone makes fun of you, i'll kick their ass, sir spicy.
