FPS from emulator incorrect?

I'm in the middle of a boss battle near the palace in Chrono Cross.

The FPS display from Pete's OpenGL2 plugin says 59.9 FPS (max), but if I run fraps, it says the FPS is 12 (!) and it runs super slow as well.

Is that an issue on the PSX as well? How could Square make a game that runs at 12 fps in certain situations?

I think that would be rather emulator issues than a game issue, have you
tried any other plugin/emu and then measure fps with fraps?

Seems like the actual game runs at 20 FPS in those situations...the 60 fps reported in ePSXe only seem to mean it's running the 20 fps animations and gameplay at full FPS. Weird.

during what situations does this happen?

have you tried Pete's OGL plugin and the "use PC FPS calculation" special game fix?

mebbe the 59.9/60FPS means the emulator is running at full speed (100%).the framerate displayed by fraps indicates the real framerate of the playstation hardware.

Yes that seems like it. The slowdown in certain boss battles also happens on a real PSX when I tested it today. Problem solved I 'spose
