Unhappy PoPoRogue problem

Basically this game only runs on 1.6.0
Everything was fine...for a while

First problem is that when the screen focuses on a character
(The kind that a circle appears from the edge of the screen and then shrinks until the whole screen is covered in black)
...the FPS drops dramatically to a point that it takes about 5 seconds to change to the next frame

The second problem I'm facing is that when I enter a certain level of a cave the FPS drops and black horizontal stripes appear
this situation still stays after I transfer back to the previos level(wich was succesfully emulated before)

If anyone needs screen shots or anything else for this please reply and I will post them

BTW...this game isn't very popular in the states...huh?

You should tell us your video plugin and it's configuration.
And yeah, I doubt many here would know a game with such a funny name...

Yes please because i tried with the latest SSSPSX and it's working just fine.

I'm using Pete's latest OpenGL 2 plugin with these settings :
Quote:
Plugin: Pete's OpenGL2 Driver 2.7
Author: Pete Bernert
Card vendor: NVIDIA Corporation
GFX card: GeForce4 Ti 4600/PCI/SSE2/3DNOW!

Resolution/Color:
- 640x480 Window mode
- Internal X resolution: 1
- Internal Y resolution: 2
- Keep psx aspect ratio: off
- No render-to-texture: off

- Filtering: 0
- Hi-Res textures: 0
- TexWin pixel shader: off
- VRam size: 0 MBytes

Framerate:
- FPS limitation: on
- Frame skipping: off
- FPS limit: Auto

Compatibility:
- Offscreen drawing: 2
- Framebuffer effects: 2
- Framebuffer uploads: 1

Misc:
- Scanlines: off
- Mdec filter: on
- Screen filtering: on
- Shader effects: 0/1
- Flicker-fix border size: 0
- GF4/XP crash fix: on
- Game fixes: off [00000000]
The only minor slowdowns i'm getting are during loadings because i'm using the real CD.
This can be solved by using an iso.
I'll give a try with epsxe when i'll know where to check according to your screenshots.
If you could provide a game save , it would help aswell.

I'll try to get the pictures right away...
but about the save data....
I saved using the F1...
were is the thing?

BTW...
If you want a pic for the first problem...
it's in the intro...
were pietoro ran back to the castle...
and the king became surronded by a black background...

Also...my menu lags too...
so I don't load the game using the save files...
But I still save them in the game...

In the saves states folder , look for a file named something like "SCPS_10050.xxx"

I see what you mean , check the attachment.
(If you don't have a compatible player , get Real Alternative.)
As you'll see i also get a slowdown here , (mainly noticeable because of Fraps eating ressources background ).
These distortion effects are cpu intensive.
In the plugin settings , try playing with the "FrameBuffer" option to more or less emulate these effects , that should speed up things.

For your second problem , can you post either a gamesave (memcard) or a save state so i can check.

Also what are your system specs ? (mainly your gfx card ??)

1.76 is available so you should upgrade aswell and see if that fix something for you.
If your card support it give a try with Pete's OpenGL2 2.7
Ultimately if your have a fast computer , you can try with the P.E.Op.S. Soft GPU 1.17.
Emulation is perfect for me with this plugin without any slowdowns.
Still i have an Amd64 3500+ , so that help a lot.

On a side note , anyone know a better capture tool than Fraps for 2D games ?
Cause while it's nice and fast for 3d games , it really suck and cause slowdowns with 2D ones.

I found a typo....
It should be "fast" not "nice"...sorry about that
Also...your video ran VERY nicely...

Processor Intel Pentium 4 2399MHz
Display Card Intel(R) 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV
Memory 256MB
Operating System Microsoft Windows 2000
Free Disk Space 750MB
Display Card Memory 8MB
Display Driver Version 6.13.1.3055
DirectX Version 9.0c
Optical Drive CD/DVD
Sound Card SigmaTel Audio
hope this helps...

BTW here's the save...after you load it...go to the next level(go up then left)

Thanks for the tips , but it seems i don't get any better results with it aswell.
Maybe my Gfx card or its drivers are too outdated to smootlhy enjoy this function.

Jc28735250 i have no problem either in that level to get the heat effects.
Did you try playing with the settings i mentionned ?
Also it seems you have an onboard video chip , maybe it's limited regarding the support of the frame buffer effects and could explain you're getting these glitches.

Hmmm...I can't get it to work...
the ePSXe crashes....

Oh well...I guess my best luck is that those nasty black lines will dissappear after I exit the damn cave...

In the mean time I'll go with Frame skipping and Direct Framebuffer updates...
It doesn't get rid of the lines but does bring the FPS to a normal level

THX for the help anyway

BTW...
I was just wondering while looking at other posts...
would another EMU possibly solve this question?
Like...PCSX?(or whatever the name)
If so...please give me some names so I can try it out

Amazing Discovery!!
I found out that I get those black lines even if I go back!!
This is really aqwuard since I had no problem before...
What kind of problem is this???..
And what can I do???

try putting framebuffer textures on 0 and framebuffer effects on 4. (opengl plugin)
You shouldn't get any black lines like this.

Solve the gfx issue no , because it's related to your video card and the plugin gfx settings.
But still i would recommend you to give a try to SSSPSX (which is what i'm using).
It seems faster to me and plays PoPorogue better.
You'll also notice you will properly get Pietro 's xa speech during the game's intro (this doesn't work with epsxe).

As for the plugins and bios to use , refer to the attached picture.

black lines are usually caused by texture filtering, turn off texture filtering and hi-res textures
