FFTactics Problem: Text too fast for Hero
Hi. This is my first time using ePSXe, and I've stumbled around with it, but I've gotten over my initial problem of slow speed and no sound during the cutscenes and the black map. I can deal with all the other problems but this one is annoying.
After Chapter 2 on, whenever the Hero character (Ramza or whatever you named him) speaks, his text goes by ultra fast, without giving you the chance to read it. This doesn't happen with ANY other character, and it didn't happen before Chapter 2. Also, whenever there is a stage where you have to make a choice, you don't even see the choice. The computer seems to pick the first one for you and then it continues. If it wasn't for FAQs I wouldn't even know there were options. Has anyone encountered this problem before? Can anyone help me with it? |

Are you sure you didn't just have a key/button stuck? Because this is a very specific little bug, and I've never seen or heard of anything like it.
Also, those other problems that you've "grown to live with" - why? FFTactics is a very easy game to get running nicely... unless you have a really slow computer, you can definitely do better than you're doing. |

I'm not sure how to post my Plugin Config, but I'll try:
My Computer: CPU: 1.10 GHz, 376 MB RAM Video: ATI tech RADEON series 7000 Driver vers: 6.14.0100.6525 (English) EPSXE (1.6.0) Settings: Video: Pete's DX6 D3D Driver 1.76 Window Mode 640x480 Texture Quality R5 G5 B5 A1 Texture Filtering 0 Hi-Res Texture 0 Gfx card vram 0 Framerate: Nothing checked except [Auto-detect FPS/Frame skipping limit] Compatibility: Off-screen drawing: 1 Minimum-missing screens Advance Blending: 0 Framebuffer textures: 0 Framebuffer access: 4 Full software drawing FVP (I turned this on to get the map to show up, but it slowed the game down a bit so I might turn it back off) Misc: Nothing checked. SOUND: Eternal SPU Plugin 1.41 Enobable Sound Enable CDDA Enable XA sound All are checked. (I did this to get the sound during the cutscenes to work) CD-ROM Xeven's Cdr Driver 0.93 (This seems to work fastest..almost a little too fast.) Hushypushy or anyone, could you tell me how to set the frame limiting like you suggested? I have no idea. Frostcircus, I checked to make sure a key was stuck, but it didn't seem to be. That and I could read everyone elses text, it was only the hero's who just went by without the text coming up at all. It's like, the text bubble comes up, and then goes right back down again. No chance to read anything. I've read about other big problems like freezing and such, and I haven't had that so far, but this problem is annoying.

Sorry to spam, but I thought this might be helpful:
Ever since Chapter 2 there has been another wierd "problem". When saving the Data on the "memory card", instead of the date (Feb6, Jan19 etc) it writes something weird. Like "squiggly line vid" The squiggly line is weird and I don't know how to reproduce it, but right next to it is the word "vid". Any clues? |

Raise the offscreen drawing a notch or two. To set the framelimiter, click the "Use FPS Limit" box near the middle of the window. Click OK and you're done
. As for the framebuffer textures/access settings, leave them where they are. You may get slowdowns with those settings but it's pretty much the only way you'll get the map to work well. The framebuffer speeds are probably horrible with that video card so it'll probably run even slower with hardware framebuffer settings.

Thanks n_w95482, that actually made the game run smoother. But it didn't solve my Ramza text-skipping problem, or the wierd dates on the save spots...
I've been cheating in the game, using the Inifinite Gil and quick level up codes. Do you think that has something to do with it? Really, I didn't have this problem until after Chapter 2... |

That might have something to do with it as using GameShark codes directly edits the console's memory. Sometimes it can have bad side effects
.

Something else I forgot to mention earlier is that you should try playing the save using the P.E.Op.S. software plugin. It's generally the most compatible plugin and helps weed out problems from the hardware plugins.
