FF7: Can't get past credits/title

I'm trying to run Final Fantasy VII with ePSXe 1.5.2, and everything works fine...except that I can't get past the title screen, so I can't tell whether everything works fine. It won't seem to accept any input, and keeps looping back and forth between the Squaresoft logo and the credits. I've searched the forums and read through about a gazillion previous posts without finding a previous answer to this problem. Can anyone help me?

My computer has played each PSX game I've previously tried on it without any errors. I go back and forth between Pete's 1.75 D3D GPU and PEOPSSoft 1.15; neither resolves this issue with the various settings changes I've tried so far. Other than that I'm using ePSXe ASPI cd plugin, ePSXe core sound, pad, etc.

Heh...that release caused more bugs on my system than it fixed. In any case, I've seen reports by other people who used 1.5.2 and earlier and for whom it worked fine.

Yeah, I find it weird too...aamof, I just found, in the Compatibility Section of ePSXe, a ranking by another person (DragonSlayer) who seems to have had the same issue...

Yep, I've played Spyro the Dragon (1, 2, and 3), Final Fantasy 9, Crash Bandicoot 3, Chrono Cross, Legend of Dragoon, Coolboarders 4, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3, Rayman 2...the list goes on.

My specs are:
CPU: Pentium III 600Mhz
RAM: 192Mb SD100
Gfx Chip: S3 Savage/IX/MV 8Mb
CD Drive: HP CD-Writer 8200
Controller: AxisPad Color

Go here to see the other person who had this issue (the last submission).

Look at my specs...1024x768 kills my little ol' 8Mb graphics card, when the emu tries to store all the textures+ in there as well.

yikes your gfx card sucks. anyway, press F5 when the game starts. that switches it over to digital only mode, which should allow input to be...um..input? just press F5 until the buttons work.

Don't say that makotech222, I currently own a ATI 4MB PCI card and it runs at 640x480 with all settings set to minimal and frame-skipping activated.

wow man, not even the DX6 one? i tried running Vagrant Story on my friend's 800mhz celeron/82810 intel integrated gfx and i couldnt get it running full speed at 640x480. of course, now i realize that it was probably the CD-ROM drive bottlenecking it. (you may think that is stupid, but it really happens. i couldnt figure out why my gf2mx and 1.7ghz Sempron were going hella slow on FF9, i realized it was because i had my CD plugin configured incorrectly).

PS. mist-walker is now banned due to more things. so, you can rest easy.

I was running Front Mission 3 then. Note that it is not running at full speed - runs at a acceptable rate of 45-52fps. Sometimes, when ePSXe is seeking the CD, it hangs for a split second and loads successfully. The lowest it can go was about 12-15fps.

Loading times are also dependent on the quality of the CDs as I experienced.

Here are my card details: ATI 3D Rage II+DVD.

Note that I am using Eternal 1.41, and the SaPu CD-ROM plugin.

OT: That mist-walker couldn't cool down; I read his posts and obviously he wasn't reading the rules at all...I think he should have done better in seeking help than CSharp.

EDIT: I activated frame-skipping with fps limit set to 60.

Thanks for all the help with FF7 guys, I figured it out a day or so ago but yeah, hushypushy hit it on the head -- press F5 to switch the pad from analog to digital mode. I guess FF7 is from way back in the day when the analog pad hadn't come out yet, or something.
