Inventory problem with FF9

Hey, in Final Fantasy 9 I cant use the Triangle button (which i have mapped correctly and works fine in FF7) to get into the inventory... I have tried both ePSXe 1.6 and 1.52 or whatever.. i have good plugins, (latest null 1.35, petes OGL2, ) im thinking mabye its just not to a point in the game yet where i can go into my inventory, (i just kidknapped the princess and we crashed in the airship in the forest. what is going on?

you can go into the menu at anytime in FF9...have you tried changing the button to anything else?
