Uh, what graphics card you got?

Try turning off OSD while on the world map.

edit: There is an edit button. Please use it.
I have a little guide on my site for this game....

What I meant was using the in-game (del, home, pgup, etc) keys to see if that helps matters on the World Map.

am not currently near the world map but I used that Kane's settings and I've messed around with them (DEL END PG UP etc. settings) and i've currently got them set at:

FL - fully shaded with dotted green
FS - blank
OD - fully green
FI - blank
DI - blank
AM -fully green
AB - fully green
FA - blank
FT - blank
GF - fully green

any advice on what to have them set as?

Play around with the OD setting when on the map. That way you can see what effect it has

i recall reading about this problem before, but i can't seem to find the original thread, so sorry about the repost. it's one of the world map glitches in ff8, namely textures are all kinda screwy, sometimes textures will be missing, sometimes i think the wrong texture gets loaded, etc. settings are:

Plugin: Pete's OpenGL Driver 1.1.75
Author: Pete Bernert
Card vendor: NVIDIA Corporation
GFX card: GeForce2 MX/AGP/SSE

Resolution/Color:
- 640x480 Window mode
[16 Bit]- Keep psx aspect ratio: off

Textures:
- Default
- Filtering: 0
- Hi-Res textures: 0
- VRam size: 0 MBytes

Framerate:
- FPS limitation: on
- Frame skipping: off
- FPS limit: 80

Compatibility:
- Offscreen drawing: 2
- Framebuffer texture: 2
- Framebuffer access: 3
- Alpha multipass: on
- Mask bit: off
- Advanced blending: on

Misc:
- Scanlines: off
- Line mode: off
- Unfiltered FB: off
- 15 bit FB: off
- Dithering: off
- Screen smoothing: off
- Screen cushion: off
- Game fixes: on [00001000]

using epsxe 1.5.2

i've tried variations of diff fb access and fb texture settings, played with pretty much every adjustable option i can, 2/2/3 and 2/0/4 seem to work best but there's still the texture problem.

i've attached a screenshot of what the glitch is, u can see the sprite textures for squall is all blue, and the deep water texture is black (really it like flashes blue and black). sometimes after i go to the menu then go back to world map, it'll change, and sometimes after a fight or going in and out of cities i'll lose textures. chocobos are also (always) invisible on the world map

i don't have the kalisto rip, and i've played the game before and not had this problem, so i was wondering if anyone could help me remember what i'm doing wrong

Try limiting the fps to 50 (if your game is pal) or 60 (ntsc), or autodetect. Turn on the mask bit.
