FF6 - Speed and Pad problems

I'm using ePSXe 1.60 with ePSXeCutor.
After configuring ePSXe as best as possible to play FF6 PAL, I still have some problems...
My computer is a Laptop IBM T40p :
-CPU: Intel Pentium M 1.6Ghz
-GPU: ATI Mobility Fire GL 9000 64MB
-Combo: TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-R9012 (DVD:8x CD:16x/10x/24x)
-Keyboard: Qwerty UK
-Sound: AC'97

I'm using the plugins:
-GPU: PEOPs Soft Driver 1.16
-Sound: PEOPs DSound Audio Driver 1.7
-CD: PEOPs CDR Driver 1.4
-PAD: Internal ePSXe

And here are my configurations:

My problems with FF6 is that:
-Once I press a button (like X to skip the intro) I have to wait problably 30sec to be able to press another one...
-Once I reach the menu, it's still seem to fast even if the FPS limit is at 50...

Thanks a lot for ur help!!!

Edit: Note that I want to use it to keep the PlayStation "quality" and to make some screenshots... Don't worry for the resolution...

The control thing is a known bug in 1.6, you'll have to use 1.5.2 in order to play ff6.
