Final Fantasy 8 text errors (final fantasy final fantasy final fantasy)
My legitimate ISO of Final Fantasy 8 runs perfectly, other than the fact that it does not successfully render the actual text in the game. Seeing as how these types of games demand legibility, I would enjoy knowing how to correct this problem.

I apologize for assuming that were I to post a topic in the ePSXe game problem forum that those responding would be able to determine that I am indeed using the ePSXe emulator.
The only plugin I imagine would have any effect on the text would be the video plugin. Given that, my video plugin is Pete's OpenGL2 Driver 2.5. |

Well, as you can see, there's a bunch of things that can be configured on ePSXe starting with plugins. Post your ogl2 configs, and if you could, and screenshot, so we could see if you really have a problem, or it's the way it is: psx games are meant to be played on TV, so it's resolution it's kinda low (320*240 says something, huh?), so the text, when is scaled up to desktop resolutions looks ugly. You can try activating scanlines, it'll make it like on TV, so text will be readable, bot you'll loose some IQ. The usual tradeoff...

I'm afraid activating scanlines did nothing, so here is a screenshot:
The screenshot is of the load screen; however, the error occurs with all text in the game. Please note that I do not run the game in fullscreen mode, and that the image is cropped to decrease file size and to assure that those viewing it will only see the necessary textual errors. Thank you for the suggestions and future help. |

I've had that problem as well. Try these settings with the OGL2 plugin.
Plugin: Pete's OpenGL2 Driver 2.5 Author: Pete Bernert Card vendor: ATI Technologies Inc. GFX card: RADEON 9500 Pro x86/MMX/3DNow!/SSE Resolution/Color: - 640x480 Window mode - Internal X resolution: 1 - Internal Y resolution: 1 - Keep psx aspect ratio: off - No render-to-texture: off - Filtering: 0 - Hi-Res textures: 0 - TexWin pixel shader: on - VRam size: 128 MBytes Framerate: - FPS limitation: on - Frame skipping: off - FPS limit: Auto Compatibility: - Offscreen drawing: 1 - Framebuffer effects: 2 (If you notice skipping sound when you go into a battle or when you go to a new area, set this to 3) - Framebuffer uploads: 2 Misc: - Scanlines: off - Mdec filter: off - Screen filtering: off - Shader effects: 0/1 - GF4/XP crash fix: off - Game fixes: on [00000002] Edit: I tried running FF8 with a bunch of different settings and it seems the cause of the problem is not enabling the game fix. Even if you set FB effects to 3, leave it enabled.
