Chrono Cross and Vandal Hearts II problem

been playing these games and have a similar problem with both of them..

Chrono cross starts up, runs through the intro, I select 'new game' and vibratino off and then it goes to a black screen and never does anything else...

Vandal Hearts II plays fine, but I just beat the battle of Luiki Checkpoint and it goes to the Loading screen, then turns into a black screen (well past the midpoint of the game). Both of these have been played by others all the way through with no problems what-so-ever.

the files are both .bin/.cue's

i'm running ePSXe with Pete's Soft drivers (the ogl drivers crash epsxe for me)

sys specs:

Athlon XP 1800+
1280mb pc2700 ddr ram
GeForce Ti-4600

thanks in advance for the help!

forgot to mention: tried with pete's 1.74 D3D drivers, and it didn't help chrono cross... unsure about vandal hearts.. it's kind of unplayable since it freezes the screen when i go to move (when it goes to split screen)

Re: Chrono Cross and Vandal Hearts II problem

I have the exact same problem with Chrono Cross, and I think it's an issue with ePSXe 1.6, cause It played fine in 1.5.2 ... So is the game broken in 1.6 or is there a workaround?

Re: Chrono Cross and Vandal Hearts II problem

Under the special game fixes in Petes Ogl and D3d plugin, one of them fixes the chrono cross problem. I forget which one it is since i am not at home to try but... just try them all one at a time. Its like fifth or sixth from the last

Re: Chrono Cross and Vandal Hearts II problem

It is not a specific game fix. There is a bunch of fixes in petes plugin under configuration->special game fixes. One of the many fixes, fixes the chrono cross problem. the fix is called the "odd/even bit hack" .

Re: Chrono Cross and Vandal Hearts II problem

the bit hack fixed vandal hearts, but with the D3D plug-in (which it looks much better with) it freezes up whenever i move a character (it's supposed to go to split-screen) but goes back to normal when the move is over. any suggestions for that?

*sigh*, i just posted this on another thread, but... go to Pete's Domain and download the latest video plugin. Open GL2 works best but it needs a strong comp. I've heard of his other plugin working w/ the split screen, but I'm not certain. BTW, the problem w/ the split screen is that epsxe is trying to emulate a special effect that is not recognized.
