Square games
Oi, I just got ePSXe, and i really only have a couple of square games that i wanted it for. However, the opening of FF9 acts really broken between the sound and the movie sequences but the game itself plays pretty well once i got going. I played around with the configurations for a while after looking for help here and in the little help text that came with the emu. I did get it to run smoother but i couldnt completely eliminate the problem. Im worried that this will happen in every movie sequence, which would take away from the quality of the rest of the game.
But my real problem is that when i try to play Chrono Cros. First, the opening mdec is really fast, I've limited the frame rate down to about 15 frames per/sec. which is were the music stopped having to play catchup, and seemed about right for speed. However when i try to start a new game, nothing happens, my screen fades black like normal, but stays that way...So this leaves me with two questions, does anyone know whats happening and/or how to fix this, and will my speed (limited to 15 fps) leave the game running too slowly once i start playing? I am using pete's 3d3 right now, i tried the using petes open gpu after reading one of the threads about CC playing too fast, but that made mine play too slow (11 fps). Any help would be appreciated so that i can enjoy these great games on my computer. |

Re: Square games
If you are using version 1.6.0 of ePSXe, try using 1.5.2 instead. 1.6.0 has numerous problems with FF9. Post your PC specs and your plugin settings. Are you running the game straight off of the CD or are you using an ISO? If you have PC FPS Calculation turned on in the special game fixes section, turn it off.

Re: Square games
ummmm.... what plugins are you using??? Framrates should be limited to either 50fps(pal) or 59.97fps(Ntsc)
Also what are your system specs (CPU, Video card, etc) for most games I get great results (steady 59.97fps . I have an AMD Xp2100 and Radeon 9500 (Modded to a 9700) I am sure your issue is either just a setting or two, or possible your cdrom drive not being able to read the PSX format very well. |

Re: Square games
I am using the Petes d3d plugin 1.74 for video, the Eternal SPU plugin 1.41 for sound, P.E.Op.S. CDR Driver 1.4 for Cdr and i am running the games from the cd. I just posted my specs for my cpu, hope that helps, but I dont know what kind of graphics card is in there, i bought my computer last year withouth the intent of playing games on it, I was really into console games but my views have recently changed, but i can play games like morrowind and other PC games so i know it has the capabilities. I will try to post my plugin setting later today

Re: Square games
thanks for the advice but my problem was originally the game went to fast (at 60 fps it tore through the opening), i had to limit it to 15 fps and then the movie worked ok, but i did find my graphics card thanks, so i am posting that with my comp. specs on my profile

Re: Square games
ok here are my video configurations, i tried to set them up similarly to what i found in another thread about someone who was having a similar problem with CC, but they were using pete's open gpu instead of petes d3d 1.74...also i have directX 8.1 will this effect what plugins i should use?
Plugin: Pete's D3D Driver 1.1.74 Author: Pete Bernert GFX card: Intel(R) 82845G/GL Graphics Controller Resolution/Color: - 640x480 Fullscreen - [32 Bit] Textures: - R8G8A8A8 - Filtering: 0 - Hi-Res textures: 1 - VRam size: 0 MBytes Framerate: - FPS limit: on - Frame skipping: off - FPS limit: 15 Compatibility: - Offscreen drawing: 2 - Framebuffer texture: 2 - Framebuffer access: 3 - Alpha multipass: on - Mask bit: on - Advanced blending: hardware Misc: - Scanlines: off [0] - Unfiltered FB: off - Dithering: off - Screen smoothing: off - Full vram: off - Game fixes: on [00004800] I also turned off the pc fps function. This allowed me to run the opening at normal speed and I was able to start the game. But this left me with yet another issue, my status screen and battles slow way down and my computer almost froze during my first battle. What should I do to fix this??? Re: Square games
Set framebuffer texture to 0 and framebuffer access to 4. Try setting the color to 16 bit and enable dithering, it will make up for the lack of color from setting it to 16 bit. If the movies are slow then enable unfilered FB.
