Dual Shock Controler probs with Ape Escape
I've been trying to run Ape Escape, but I need to have dual shock controler, I set it up so it lets me play, but once I get to the menu I can't move or select anything, can someone help me set up my Analog thingy for the emulator? Is it possible to do it with my mouse/keyboard, and how?
Ugh, I just keep feeling stupider and stupider every second... |

Re: Dual Shock Controler probs with Ape Escape
Enable analog in the Pad setup, you need to press f5 as the emu loads up the game. You should in the top corner "controller = digital" and when you press f5 and have analog enabled it says "controller = analog" Hope that helps.

Re: Dual Shock Controler probs with Ape Escape
Just set up the pad with whatever buttons you want, and setup the analog buttons too. Then if you do the rest I mentioned before, it should work. Just enable the analog, and during play, press f5 to activate this.
edit: heres a little pic for reference, note I'm using a psx pad, but I use to use the keyboard and worked fine. But remember, f5 while the game is booting up, you should see the controller = thingie. With epsxe 1.6.0, I noticed it doesn't tell you its analog (dunno why) but it turns to it. If you can get past the dual shock screen in ape escape, you know its did it right. |

Re: Dual Shock Controler probs with Ape Escape
(i don't double post, but being as my above one has a certain focus, iam going to double post ^_^ )
Just a suggestion, ape escape is REALLY dependant of the analog controller. BOTH analogs are essential to play, left is movemnet, right is used for attacking, buttons are used to switch weps. Unless you feel very confident that you'll be able to play it well with a keyboard setup, go for it, but I suggest you try to either get an analog pad or a psx-to-pc pad adapter. Also, later in the game, when you get the propellar (spelling) weapon, you need to violently swivle the right analog stick to make it spin, which should be an annoying task with the keyboard, to only add to an already annoying and frustrating game, (at the later levels, jeez they get annoying) So, try the keyboard setup just to see if it works and suits you, but dont expect it to feel comfortable to play THIS game with. |

You using the buttons you set-up the analog with? Press f5 and try again, if not, do it again, if not.....well thats as far as I can take you.
edit: send me a pic of your controller setup, I want to see how you are doing it. |

Re: Dual Shock Controler probs with Ape Escape
Hold up, but you GET passed the analog screen, you get TO the title screen currect? If you get that far, its recognizing your setup as analog. Now it has something to do with the buttons.
Ah crap, I think ape escape is one of some games you need to "turn on" analog on the actual game pad, the red light. Some games just understand it as analog and work fine, but some need to be turned on on the pad, such as vagrant story also. If thats the case, you are screwed. Get an adapter ![]() edit: to post a pic, click on "go advanced" in the reply box. But you need to type atleast one letter to go there, then scroll to the bottom and see "manage attachments" - click that, broswe for the pic you created, click add, then done. thats it. "alt-printscr" to take a snapshot of your current window, open bitmap, paste, save as jpeg, and upload, thats it. |

Re: Dual Shock Controler probs with Ape Escape
You know what, don't bother, those are axis buttons, you need to set them up as axis, so you better off getting an adapter and using a real psx pad, much easier and "authentic". go to www.liksang.com, they have various, but they are in japan. and iam not promoting their site!

Re: Dual Shock Controler probs with Ape Escape
I forgot to mention those are AXIS buttons, you need something to support it as axis. Some joypads do that, but you better of using an adapter or an USB dual analog controller, its well worth it.

Re: Dual Shock Controler probs with Ape Escape
Can my keyboard or mouse work for the axis?
And if so, how? I'd like to play in on my computer, but if worse comes to worse I'll just burn it on to a cd and play it on my psx, but the color will probably be really messed up since it's PAL, at least that's what happened with Megaman X6. |

Re: Dual Shock Controler probs with Ape Escape
What do you mean 'burn it to a disc and play it on my psx'? Why don't you use your original CD?

Re: Dual Shock Controler probs with Ape Escape
Tisk tisk, I'll pretend I didn't hear that. No talk of pirate software.
Your keyboard can't do axis, unless something I'm unaware of does allow that. Well there is a way but you have to edit something. Google it and see what it gives you, heres a site for some ideas, good luck with it. http://www5.playnet.com/ogm/axis2.html |

Re: Dual Shock Controler probs with Ape Escape
The original CD is my friends, he asked me to find a way to play it, since neither of us have a PAL playstation. I made an ISO on my computer when he took it home. We're playing the original CD right now actually, but it's giving me a headache, since the screen keeps flashing and there are little lines across the screen.
