Question Final Fantasy 9

ok, i had ePSXe befor, and had it set up perfectly, but then, i was forced to erase my hardrive, and (it pulled a "system 32 files are corrupt" thing)

so anyway, i didn't manage to back up the emulator (and all of it's saved settings)

so i re-downloaded it, set it up, and like when i first got it, it works with most games (took some tweaking obviously) but it doesn't work with FF(, and i cant figure for the life of me why, any help, here are the general settings that i have:

Video:
Pete's DX6 D3D Driver 1.72
(Full Screen, 800X600 16 Bit*)
Texture quality: R8 G8 D8 A8 - Best colors, more ram needed **
Hi-Res textures: None
Texture filtering: 3:Standard w/o Sprites - unfiltered 2D***
Gfx card vram: 0 (Autodetect)
Framerate: Use FPS limit, Auto-detect FPS/Frame skipping limit
Compatability:
Off-Screen drawing: 3:Enhanced - Shows more stuff
Advanced blending: 2:Hawdware***
Framebuffer textures: 2:Gfx card buffer - Can be slow
Framebuffer access: 0:Emulated vram - OK for most games
Alpha Multipass (correct opaque texture areas) - yes
Mask Bit (needed by a few games) - yes
Misc.:
have ticked the following:
Color dithering***
Screen smoothing
and i have these Special game fixes:
"Adjust framebuffer access" (ONLY for FF7 bttle cursor/battle swirl)
"Use old texture filtering" (Fixes black areas with some cards)
"Remove blue glitches" (Leg. o. Dragoon, Alpha Multipass needed)
"Use PC fps calculation" (better fps limitation with some games)
"Use old frame skipping" (skips only every second frame)****
"G4 polygon cache" (ONLY for FF9 battle mode...yellow rect)*****
"Odd/even bit hack" (Needed with epsxe 1.5.2 and older)
"Special upload detection" (May show some additional splash scenes)

*(can be 32 but doest make any digfference i find, well to me anyway)
**i dont actualy need more RAM right?
*** as recomended in the help section
****this one change (ticking the box) was what got digimon world 2003 to work btw (yeah, i know, im sad :P)
*****whats yellow rect?

Sound:
ePSXe SPU core 1.5.2.
ticked all boxes:
Enable Sound
Enable CDDA Sound
Enable XA Sound
Enable SPU IRQ hack
and it says that ePSXe SPU core 1.5.2. "need not be configured!"

Cdrom:
ePSXe CDR WNT/W2K core 1.5.2.
(the plug in: ePSXe CDR ASPI core 1.5.2. crashes ePSXe whenever i try to configure it, so i use the above.)
Cdrom letter: E:
all three subchanel things enabled,
Enable subchannel read from cdrom
Enable subchannel caching to disk
Enable subchannel caching for LG-8520/21/22b

Gamepad:
i confiured it like a real PS1 pad, (i got an adapter off the internet)

all of my games are playstation discs, none are roms or anything else.

right, that took far too long to write, and i am sorry if i have inadvertaintly boken some rules or compleatly broken everyone in the book, i did not mean to, im just looking for some help...

so thank you in advance,

oh, and hello! (i never introduced myself)

Re: Final Fantasy 9

Adjust framebuffer access - Turn it off its ONLY for FF7
Use old texture filtering - u don't need it turn it off
Remove blue glitches - u don't need it
Use PC fps calculation - u don't need it
Use old frame skipping - u don't need it
G4 polygon cache (ONLY for FF9 battle mode...yellow rect) - of course u need this on
Odd/even bit hack (Needed with epsxe 1.5.2 and older) its for Chrono Cross only
Special upload detection (May show some additional splash scenes) - this okay I suppose

try installing a ASPI Layer
and what is your pc specs?

edit: umm the only gamefix u need on for FF9 is the G4 polygon cache

Re: Final Fantasy 9

These fixes are called special game fixes, because they were created to fix issues with specific game, but to screw up the rest...

Another important thing is to enable subchannel reading/caching, because FF9 has an additional protection.

Re: Final Fantasy 9

I think in his attachment he already enable it.

Maybe you should change the sound plugin to eternal spu plugin 1.41.

IIRC in the eternal plugin option there is a fix needed for FF9.

Try it.

And while you're at it, use the P.E.Op.S cdr plugin 1.10. (It's easy to use, you won't get confuse)

An ISO is an image of a CD. Kinda like a ROM yes, exept you can dmp one yourself with everyday 'tools'. Yes, from your original CDs.

More likely. ISO = image CD. You can create one [only from your VERY original CD] with CloneCD or Alcohol 120%. Make sure subchannel option [both] enabled for better ISO quality.

Re: Final Fantasy 9

oh ok, so i have to use clone CD o copy it, then i just put it in the drive, with the subchsnnel settings you suggest, and its the same except you run ISO instead of running CDRom?

ok, but im still going to try to get the normal CD working, i know it does as i had it runnung befor...

oh, could anyone who plays FF9 please post, (or send me, foofighter34 (@msn.com)) a screenshot of your video settings so i an compare, and change mine to yours, and see if that works?

Re: Final Fantasy 9

Yes, clone cd can make cd image and after that you don't have to put the cd in the drive anymore, u can :

a. use daemon or any other virtual cd drive tools and mount your image to it and use P.E.Op.S cd plugin (my choice).
b. use mooby cd plugin and use it to play your image.

And here's my settings, the special game fix i choose is the G4 polygon cache.

Re: Final Fantasy 9

You need a ppf patch. Search the net for it, and make sure that's for your version of Final Fantasy 9 (so ie i have the spanish version of FF9, then i need the ppf patch for spanish version). Another possibility is using PEOPS cd-r plugin to make an m3s or sbi file. If you'd like to try this, it's explained in the manual, but if you cannot figure it aout, come back and post . The last possibility i know is enabling subchannel reading and subchannel caching on ePSXe under config->cdrom. That should be the simplest, and work fine. But never tried it myself XD.

Edit: damn... didn't notice he was playinf from an iso... Did you extract the subchannel when making the iso? If you made it with clonecd you should have 3 files: a .ccd, a .img and a .sub one. You need the last two to play.

Re: Final Fantasy 9

havent made an iso, im jut wondering if maybe ePSXe has a problem with disk one, as i said it worked befor, around easter time, and disk two still works, i wonder if i get a new copy of the game, and sell off my copy (it stillworks on PS1) i wonder if that would work, it's just im sure that i didn't need a patch befor, but i did download something this time, would a pdx-finalfantasy9g work, im not too good on this kinda thing, (in the folder it has pdx-f9gc (msinfo document) a txt: file_id (the logo) then ff9-cd1.ppf, ff9-cd2.ppf, ff9-cd3.ppf and ff9-cd4.ppf the finally Aplyppf (an aplication?)

Re: Final Fantasy 9

You should make an ISO anyway, because they run much faster than CDs and PPF patching won't be necessary. Use CloneCD with m profile:
