I have Final Fantasy 8, 9 +Tactics, Chrono Cross and Breath of Fire 4... Tactics and Chrono Cross works perfectly but the others makes my computer freezes always in same parts of games... FF9 after the first possible saving point in the movie, FF8 in cd2 after a 2nd fight with that weird vehicle from missile base, and BoF4 after first possible place when going on world map to get the spare parts...
I use EPSXe 1.52, Pete's D3D 1.70 (with different options), some plugin to have no sounds and either SAPU's cd-rom plugin 1.0 or P. E. Op. S. cd-rom driver 1.3 (with different options)... My hardware: AMD K6-2 400 Mhz, 96 Mb, 7,1 Gb, Creative TNT2 m64, Soundblaster 16 (yeah, I know... crappy as hell but....) Please... help! |

Re: My computer freezes with some games...
I'm guessing the games are freezing up on you because of some CD-ROM I/O error (as they always freeze at the same spot). When the game freezes press the escape key and check the debug window (AKA DOS box). If an error has occurred in the game it should display it there. If it is indeed a read error (it should say something like error reading sector something) then try cleaning the CD or making an ISO (CD image) of it.

Check the CDs. Make sure that they are as flawless as possible as far as scratches and such go. Be meticulous.
I was playing Grandia, and had just defeated a boss, and it froze shortly after that, in the exact same spot, every time. I took the CD out and noticed a tiny smudge of dirt that was probably obstructing the read laser of my PSX. After a good cleaning, ran smooth as butta.

Re: My computer freezes with some games...
Well if you have enough hard drive space, try making an ISO of the game. Not only will it run faster, it will hopefully solve you problem.

Re: My computer freezes with some games...
I just tried it and.... nope.... I even tried another emulator and still doesn't work... it must be because of my computer....
I have been researching from the web and found out everybody else would have got them working by now... |
