minor FF9 sound problem...

Have no background music when riding a chocobo!!

When riding a chocobo on the main world screen, background music stops entirely until I get back off the chocobo, and then it goes back to normal. The emulation seems to work flawlessly in all other respects, and I realise that this might be a minor problem, but I've managed to solve all my previous ones except this one, so any help or advice would be appreciated!

Am using External spu 1.41, with special udate register game fix enabled. Any advice would be welcome!

There should be usually a seperate music (the famous Ukulele de Chocobo ) in the background when riding a Chocobo...

First of all: What version of ePSXe are you using, how did you configure SPU Eternal, what are your system specs? Are you playing from the original CD or from an ISO?

using ePSXe version 1.5.2 on a p3-1000Mhz system.
GeForce4MX graphics card (using latest detonator drivers)
soundblaster live! with latest drivers
windows 2000 operating system
SPU External set at SPUasynch (smooth setting)
and the 'Update before accessing register' box ticked.
set using directsound option, and neils reverb option....

finally am using an iso created from original disk and am using a patch (uk version) to get it running (usually through DAEMON manager but have tried via iso option through ePSXe and pretty much the same, no changes at all)

SPU Eternal: Wait instead of Smooth (makes smaller buffers possible and always keeps the frame limit at the perfect value). You'll have to disable any Frame limitations.

Patches: When creating an ISO with subchannels patching isn't necessary anymore. Maybe your patch is responsible for the missing music.

Try using "Thread" instead of "ASync"... sometimes I get sound glitches with FF9 using ASync especially during CG cinemas. Also try turning off the "Update before Accessing Register" option... make sure that the two SPU IRQ options in the Eternal SPU Config Menu are turned off.

Well, it's not always like that, it depend on your own configs and specs. Actually, i had it on wait, and it caused me slowdowns. Then i changed to smooth, and it works properly. So the best you can do is try wich one works better for you.

Finally managed to solve the original problem i.e. no background music when riding a chocobo.....
turns out that I'm using pete's gpu version 1.71, and I had framebuffer access set to 1 (graphics card buffer reads). When I switch to 0 (emulated vram) the background music can finally be heard!

Don't know WHY it works, but it does .....

thx to everyone who gave me advice, much appreciated.
