Xenogears - Lewpy's Glide

Running Xenogears on ePSXe 1.5.2 with a PIII, 1GHz, WinME and a Voodoo 5 5000 AGP under Lewpy's Glide plugin.

The game starts fine with opening text and the scene of the village being bombed. Then, the screen goes black yet I hear and see explosions or screen flashes. See faces and text boxes. Next, a banner (so to speak) of a graphic appears at the top of the screen. Can't tell what it is. Eventually, the game settles into the tavern and outside the town and the game runs okay. But, after visiting the Doc and returning to town, same black screen stuff. Mech battle sequence seems to be fine, though. FMV looks good, too.

Any tweak tips? Here's my config:

>FrameBuffer Access | Disabled
>Off-Screen Drawing | Basic

Turn these up to full.

>Draw Method | VSA-100

You might also want to change this to multipass. The VSA mode seems to have probs for me in XG

Okay, now I'm seeing what I wasn't seeing before but everything is very pixilated and jagged. Can I beg another tip off of you?

>Bilinear Filtering | Enabled w/o Sprites

You ould try setting that to simply Bilinear filtering, or you could try enabling FSAA.

That beginning part heavily uses framebuffer effects. Hence why it looks all pixelated since lewpys glide does that scene in software/hardware rendering. The rest of the game is fine though.

Yeah, that village assault scene is pitiful. Gears looked kewl, though.

Took Lord Kane's advice (as always) and the game is now looking fine. Minimal config tweaks on this one, as opposed to FF9 which was a challenge. Again, thanks to all for the tweak advice on both games.

Wonder what's in store for me and Lewpy and my Voodoo 5500 with Chrono Cross and Dragon Warrior VII? Never mind, I'll get around to it later...

I found most games including FF9 and Xenogears to be easily fixed and configurable on my Voodoo 5 5500 pci and lewpys glide. Barely had any problems with them.
