Xenogears dream freeze (F7 not working)

I'm using the latest version of ePSXe, and I'm stuck. I know this problem has come up approximately 8 billion times in the past, but I'll describe the exact situation, JUST IN CASE there's something different about this one.

It's the dreams sequence with Fei (after Citan finds Vanderkaum's wrecked Gear in the desert). It shows Fei running towards you with the cross swinging back and forth. Then it shows Fei playing catch with his mother. Then it switches to an FMV of Fei playing catch, which usually works fine but sometimes freezes (meaning that the FMV freezes, but the game will continue playing). During this time the music-box music is playing, but as the FMV plays a more driving and ominous music sets in. Then the view backs away from the FMV and a spotlight comes on in front of Fei. He wonders where he is and the view rotates around until Fei is just behind and to the right of the kid in the spotlight. And then it freezes.

I know about the F7 fix, but it's not working. I've pushed F7 after the game freezes. I've pushed it just before the game freezes. I've done it during the FMV. I've done it just before the FMV. I've done it during the part with the cross. I've done it during the previous scene when the old guy was playing the organ. Nothing works. Any suggestions?

My computer has a 2 Ghz processor, 1 GB of RAM, a GeForce4 128 MB AGP card, and Soundblaster Live. I think that meets the system requirements (and it exceeds the systems of others on the board who've gotten through with no problem.)

I'm using Pete's OpenGL 1.68 plugin, the Eternal SPU 1.30 plugin, and the internal W2K CDR.

Can anybody give me a hand here?

Ha that's nothing today i found a nother error , just before fighting ID for the last time (right after the saving optin) the game closes with the folowing messege Opcode 15 UNK (pc,000000000000)
soetimes it's Opcode 2 and 5 , what the heck is this ?!

Unsupported opcodes I'd assume.

What you may wish to try is posting up your memcard and see if others can get past that bit. Can't help you at the mo, as my bro has my Xenogears discs.

Try using the PEOPS soft GPU. It ussualy helps during that stage of the game.

And Zell, that isn't completely new. I have encountered that problem in over half of my games. And ussually fix it by playing an earlier part of the game without using savestates though it also sometimes help using either another CDR plugin if that is what you use or simply another SPU plugin.

Ok do it Vahid, just download the attachment epsxe005.rar and then if you don't mind send or post a savestae a minute after the save .

Thought I'd left, didn't you?

In case you haven't guessed, it's still not working. Can anybody tell me EXACTLY when I should press F7, because I've heard various descriptions of what will make it work, and I'm still not sure if I'm doing the right thing.

Has this ever happened before, where the game performs the exact same way regardless of whether or not the F7 trick has been used?

Also, could this have something to do with sound? The music always performs a little erratically, sometimes speeding up to hyperspeed and sometimes slowing way down. Sometimes the music-box music is still playing when the game hangs, other times the weird driving music has come and gone. Other times it's just dead silence.

Exactly. I'm having the same problem rubberchicken. The f7 doesn't work and I'm thinking of emailing the creators of epsexe about it cause they say that f7 works, but it doesn't for me. What's your email rubberchicken? Maybe we can share what in the world is going on. I want to play my Xenogears!

I can't really share anything beyond what I've already listed. If I thought something else might be important, I'd say it. I want the game to WORK, for Christ's sake.

I'm almost desperate enough to actually buy a PS1.

I know what you mean rubber. I can't get it to work and I tried emailing the creators. It said "error can't send mailer deamon" wutever... I want to play it since it is a really good game. Yeloazndevil, I have the NTSC (US) version of the game and all the plugins and everything don't work. I'm so lost.

That leads me to another little problem... namely, the fact that I can't make the memcards work... also, I've been gone for the past couple of days and didn't have much chance to read it until a couple of hours ago. Sorry.

Well, I managed to get it to work. I switched the emulator from PAL to NTSC, and now it works fine (although not without the F7 key). Well, not completely fine. During the time I spent screwing around with the graphics card trying to fix everything, I have somehow managed to set the computer to a mode that plays the 3D graphics just fine, but which now plays the movies at super-flaming-psycho-speed. Grr...
