FF IX doesn't run under linux

For some reason when I try to run FF9 the screen just goes black. Both cd-rom drive and hard disk do something all the time but nothing else happens. I set the "Auto load ppf files enabled" on and copied the patch to the right folder. I had no problems running it under Windows 98. The only thing that came to mind was that in Windows I needed to set Petes cd plugin not to wait for some response from the drive. Could that be the cause of the problem?

P.S.
I don't have any other games so I don't know if it is a problem with FF9 or every game.

P.P.S.
It is the PAL version.

Erm ForceASPI is for windows, not linux

My guess would be that the patch is not properly applied, because if this is the case the symptions you describe occur (ie CD/HDD being accessed but nothing happens). Did you remember to rename the ppf file to the id code of your ff9 disk? (linux is case sensitive, so what is right in windows could be the wrong name in linux)
